all I ever heard about vietnam vets was that they were the poor kids who were thrown into a war and now there all messed up on drugs and suicide. ALmost every myth about vietnam vets is a lie, on average men who served in the war make more money than those who did not, they are less likely to be in prison than those who did not, and my favorite truth about vietnam vets is they are less likely to be homeless than draft dodgers. Just because a homeless guy says he was in the war doesn't mean he was. What do you think?

as one who served in the viet nam war i can assure you that i was never a druggie and never lowered my head to anyone i didn't like the war but then if you like war i think you have a screw loose. we went there to do a job that was never intended to be finished. if you recall, if you are old enough, or read about the war you would see that our technology and our fire power was quite extensive and yet we lost. that is the biggest thing i hate about viet nam we were not allowed to win. when nixon got to the white house and hired henry to negotiate we felt that the only reason the nva would want to negotiate again was an effort to resupply. most fighting stopped when the paris peace talks would start up again that is for our side their side was bringing more supplies down the ho che minh trail just as fast as they could and we were supposed to honor their cease fire. we had awsume fire power that scared the hell out of them. one was the b 52 bomber their bombs could come within 100 feet of a target on the ground and they flew so high that the bombs were falling on them almost before the enemy could hear them coming. but since you asked the biggest reason that the viet vet was scorned was the news media. just like this iraq war you can get instant pictures and news almost as it happens. our parents saw the same things we did the same day it happened. the news people didn't show the american gi as anything but a murderer of women children and villages. i believe that pres reagan had the right idea when he invaded granada without informing the news that he was going to do so. it sure worked

This is one of the ways that the people who protested the war use to justify their antiwar stand. You will see the same thing happen with the vets. of the Iraq war Thank you for pointing out the good side of the Vietnam vets.

Most that believe what they here are morons. I'm a Vietnam USMC Vet 67-68 and I don't do drugs (but did then), and I am a Vice President of an oil company, live on a horse ranch, do a lot of hunting and fishing, and life is Great!

Because many of the members of Hollywood and the media were the very same hippies who protested against the war then. Many of them were the very same people who spat on returning vets. Many of them viewed the war as wrong (mostly because they were afraid of being drafted and sent there themselves) and by extention, they viewed the VETS as "wrong"...

Because when they got home, people were mad at them for agreeing to fight in a pointless war. Even though they had to go, doves still said they could have dodged the draft, and since they did go, they therefore were betraying the country.

Because Hollywood and the Media love to tell a tale of woe, make a scandal, or smear a war veteran.

They can't just be nice can they?

I think it's easier than apologizing for how they were treated by America.
