17.5 secs for 100m?? What did you do ,stop for a pee? I could beat that now at 52.
My best at 17 were 11.3 and 23.4 secs respectively and they weren't considered exceptionally fast even then.
After seeing the times some people on here have managed it seems athletes are getting slower??This is not borne out by the fact that World records are constantly being broken.
The people on here are obviously not athletes or God help our Olympic team in 2016.
Très mauvais...CHEEK!!!.....I am being truthful, they were achieved on Bangor University grounds in 1973.I have certificates to prove it. It was in the Caernarfonshire schools championships. I did not make it into the County team as two boys from Friars School Bangor and Ysgol Syr Huw Owen Caernarfon achieved 11.1secs each.
A couple of years later a boy from Brynrefail school clocked 10.8secs which got him through to the Welsh finals and I suspect to the British schools too.

If you are a 15 year old beginner, these times are fair, but not a sign of raw natural speed. You might do better as a middle distance runner, or a hurdler. However, proper training could improve your sprinting speed.
In any case, you should be a solid 100 - 800 relay runner. also, the person who told you that his best times at 17 were 11 and 23 sec. respectively and not considered fast is not being truthful. At a high school level those are record setting times. The 2006 NCAA winners in those events ran in times of just under 11 and 22 seconds. I suspect that the answer was given by a boastful, but not truthful runner with more stories than medals. Keep running if you enjoy it. You will get better.
Glad to hear you really did run those times, but you should answer the kid with the knowledge that he is just a high school kid looking to run, not an Olympian. Optimum championship times aren't getting slower, but they also aren't getting a lot faster. Humans have about reached the maximum sprint speeds, and those who can run a 100 in under 9 (men) or 10 (women) seconds are RARE. Any high school kid who could run an 11 second or lower 100 would be a star sprinter. Certainly there will be times and places where there are more than 2 on a team, but that is the exception, not the rule.

are you a guy or a girl??? that really makes a difference in determining if these times are okay for you or not.
either way, they should be a little faster if you want tobe competitive.
average times for a girl would be:
100m- 13-14 seconds
200m- 27-28 seconds
average times for a guy would be"
100m- high 11s up into the high 12s
200m- 23 to 24 seconds

I'm not sure if you are a boy or girl...but like the others, you might want to do distance. 15 years old, give or take, an underclassmen at HS. Our High Schools track team girls run the 200 in about 27-32. And boys, nothing over 30.

I'm 14 and i got 13.2 seconds for the 100m and 26.4 seconds for the 200m. The fitter you get and the harder you train the faster you may become.

Well, it depends on your gender, age, and experience. Good times would be around 11.5-12.8 for the 100m and about 25.0- 26.8 for the 200m. I am 13 years old, and my time for the 100m is 13.0 and my 200 time is 27.5.
But good luck! As long as you stay focused, work hard, and push yourself, you'll be fine!!! (as your fitness improves, so will your times!)

i distance run, i'm 15 too, and my bests are about 17 for a 100m and 35 for 200 meters... you should try distance running, it may seem too long to run, but trust me the runs go quickly, and if you find someone to run with, it can be really fun. try your HS's cross-country/track teams

Those times are OK, but you might want to be a long distance runner.
