unusedtohappiness......what an idiot! You can't even read the stats right. The military does NOT have a high HIV rate like you claim.
The military is tested at LEAST twice a year for HIV, amoungst other things also. No where in your reference does it say 1 out of every 7 Marines have HIV.

No to the original question....was is it your trying to find out about the Marines and being married to one? Being married to a Marine, or any other service member is like being married to anyone else. There are good ones, and there are bad ones. He will travel a great deal, sometimes without you, he will work long hours sometimes, spend many evenings getting ready for "CG" or "IG" inspections, have duty maybe a couple evenings a week, study a great deal in his off hours.
Now the good side....you, the Marine, and any kids you may have will have medical/dental/and eye care, shop at the Exchange (also known as the PX) get 30 days a year paid vacation, numerous long weekends, and retirement after 20 years.

i was married to one--and they know 110 ways to kill, they are quick and you may be next. Not all are like that but I would think it thru first. If you are looking for a fast ride then party on. Just thoughts not a downer on any branch of the service. I have sons and grandsons that are 82nd airborne and
pilots. Love 'em all.

The rate of HIV infection among members of the military is very high, and even more so among US Marines. A recent study showed that one in seven of them is HIV+.
