I understand that you do not believe in god and do not practice any religion that is god based. Do you consider any parts of your life to be spiritual in nature? Example: You are a runner and having a good run is a spiritual experience for you... Just wondering, thanks.

I guess I'd have to define "spiritual". If you are attaching a god to it, then no.... I have never felt the presence of a god or supernatural being or supernatural feeling in anything that I do... tried it, never felt it.

If you say spiritual is just an overall feeling of wellbeing and happiness and joy, then yes, I have. I guess thinking is a spiritual experience for me... and watching my son play and laugh. Hanging out with my husband and son on a lazy day, just playing boardgames and knowing we love each other and are watching out for each other.

When I've donated my time to help another person, I feel extreme joy, just seeing the smile on their face and knowing I've made a difference.

Contrary to popular belief (or evangelical belief, anyway), atheists are not angry, unhappy brutes who have no joy in their lives. We are just like religious people, we just believe in one fewer gods.

If by spiritual you mean supernatural then no i don't have any spiritual experiences. However if by spiritual you mean a feeling of wholeness and connection to the world around me then yes all the time. For me a spiritual experience is a thought process from within that brings new understanding to my life. Life's purpose is the pursuit of purpose

As an atheist, I like the catch all abstract idea of a person's soul, perhaps as a deeper, truer understanding of an individuals personality. I'm no biology expert, but I know body chemistry does some strange things to me when I hear a great tune, read a great novel, ponder deep philosophies, explore the deep mysteries of nature, or when I'm in the presence of a captivating woman. I do not attribute any of this to the super natural, but it is all pretty amazing and mind boggling.

I don't take spiritual to mean that I have a spirit. I do have spiritual moments, every day. They are prompted by little things.. a fit of giggles that leaves me feeling "high", a nice breeze, my children's laughter, a really good song, the sun through the clouds, the sound of rain on the ground, the rustling of leaves, the sound of the ocean, bird song... really, the list could go on and on :)

For me spiritual means.. I feel a connection to the earth, to my family, friends, and all living creatures. Life is good :)

Of course! There is a penetrating essence of experience that transcends what I currently understand. That mysteriousness is ever present in every moment, so even the most mundane act is spiritual in nature, from going to the bathroom to helping someone to doing my work. Its not like the moment you start thinking of things as mundane that reality looses any of its pervasive mystery and nature, you just aren't paying attention to it, or you don't want to see the spiritual aspect of something you don't like. But even **** is spiritual and effects all of nature, it makes the mango trees grow.

I don't consider it "spiritual," but I get a good feeling when I see a wonderful sight, or hike a long distance, or read a good book, or see someone I love succeed in what they are trying to do. I consider these feelings natural, not spiritual.

I think it is important for all people to be spiritual in all aspects of life. Going outside, making love, swimming, spending time with loved ones, reading an inspiring book, or anything. Life is spiritual. Everything we do is a ritual. Religon is not really all that important because it is just a insitution that offers guidance and fellowship. Everyone has their own personal path they must follow. It is important not to put ourselves (everyone not just atheists) in boxes.

Yes not in the spirit sense , but Getting in touch with all my emotions or peaking an emotion out is the same as what a "spiritual" person experiences.

Just walking outside and experiencing the beauty of nature is enough for me. There's nothing like taking a long hike to see the gorgeous waterfall at the end of the trail, or seeing two birds in a hilarious squabble over a twig. I may not believe a God created it, but in my eyes, nature is something to be cherished and loved.

I probably have experiences that YOU would call spiritual - appreciation of the sublime beauty of nature, a piece of music or emotional feeling. But I wouldn't call it spiritual myself. These are responses we all have. To call it spiritual would be to hint at the existence of the spirit.
