I'm going out tonight with some friends tonight and although they have a designated driver I will be driving seperatly because I have to be up early for work tomorrow. I don't want to look goofy sipping water. That's just an invitation for people to try and buy you drinks.

Back in the day, when i was young... and use to go clubbing... i was designated driver (most times). Orange juice and cranberry!
The bartender, Mycha... knew when i was the D.D. and so she would ask me... "another Miss MYCHA ???"
She always put a smile on my sober face.... made my night pass by... and so do the free Miss Mycha's!

try it... its a cool healthy drink!

I just get a big club soda with lime. In a dark bar or club it looks like a tom collins or gin and tonic and club has smaller bubbles than seltzer so you're less gassy.

For those who comment on why anyone should care what someone thinks they're drinking-there's a lot of pressure put on people (esp young people) who aren't drinking. This would help avoid any unnecessary attention.

You are talking about "mocktails" -- non-alcoholic drinks.

I am not going to mention the "Shirley Temple" which I used to get when I was a little kid.

How about -- Temperance Tantrum

3 oz. cranberry juice, 2 oz. orange juice, squeeze of lemon, ginger ale.
Blend the juices with ice until smooth, then top up with the ginger ale.
Garnish with a fiery chilli pepper.

If you drink 7UP with a lime/lemon in it they won't know what you're drinking and will more than likely assume you are drinkng Gin & 7UP or Gin & Tonic! Same thing with Coke. They'd probably assume you were drinking Long Island Iced Tea/Rum& Coke or something.

Maybe a non-alcoholic beer? If you pour it in a glass it just looks like you're drinking a regular beer.

I always get a non alcoholic margarita. Or, get a cola, people will just think it's like a rum and coke.

I personally just don't drink

I like orange juice and 7up. It's the basic non-drinker's pub drink in the UK

Coca Cola, strawberry lemonade, ginger ale, virgin daiquiri, orange juice (which you can call a "virgin screwdriver" if you want to make it sound more drinky), Shirley Temple...
