Use of my photo?

I have been approached by someone who would like to use one (or more) of my photos on the cover of a book that he will be self-publishing. Does anyone have any experience with providing photos in this manner? What is a typical financial arrangement?

I recently went through this sort of thing, and needed to make the same decision you face here. The first answer to your question gave some good advice, and I agree with their take, but would add a few thoughts.

If this is you fist opportunity to have your work published, then being published is more important than making money directly, in my opinion. If the person who is publishing the book is not expecting to make much money, and being a self-published book, that is a reasonable expectation, the fact of you getting published definately is of value enough to not charge for the use.

As stated in the earlier answer, you do want to ensure that you are credited for your photos in writing somewhere plainly visible in the book. The agreement should be for a non-exclusive use of your photo(s). Verify that the intended use of your photos is going to be in a menner, and purpose you are comfortable with. Get the agreement in writing, and signed by both of you.

It varies. If neither of you have been published before and he does not expect to make much money off this self-published work, then you might just want to let him use the photo as long as it appears with your name and copyright. On the other hand, you could work out a royalty arrangement based on future sales. Why don't you call two or three photographers in your area or a local artist's group and ask?

Depending on how good your picture is and what publisher,but I would say from my standpoint 100,000 at the most, but again how famous or good is your picture?need more info
