I gave my dog Panacur once a day for 3 consecutive days, repeated the procedure after 3 weeks again. The vet told me that I would be able to see the hookworms in his feces after couple of days, however I did not see anything, so I was wondering if anyone has had similar experience? is it possible that the hookworms are gone even though I didn't see them when I was picking up after my dog?

I know that he had hookworms because his vet told me so, however I had never seen them myself.

no, you cannot see hookworms or whipworms for that matter. the only ones you can see with the naked eye are roundworms and tapeworms. a recheck fecal exam is always advisable just to make sure they are gone.

I agree with Bob. You cannot see hooks or whips, just tape worms and round worms. If you're not sure have another stool sample checked; It's not a bad idea to check again anyhow, hooks are real hard to get rid of.

What the vet should have told you is you MIGHT see worms in the stool, not that you WOULD...most of the time they are passed without the owner ever seeing them.

I'd take my dog back to the vet ! He still has them. Or It could be you are not looking good enough, you have to get something & move it around sometimes & look real good. If no hookworms are seen, then take him back to the vets & have it redone..

hookworms are the hardest to see, they are very small and you have to look really close. roundworms look like spaghetti, and tapeworms are flat. dont be concerned if you cant see them very well, just look for his stool to look a little different and if you still concerned call you vet, there is not such thing as a stupid question!!!
