there are so many questions from christians exclaiming "how can you not believe!?"

but honestly, i cannot fathom how someone CAN believe.

just to show you, it goes both ways. we atheists are just as convicted in our (non) beliefs as you are in yours.

Well the US death toll in Iraq passed 3500 today and there are between 100,000 to 500,000 dead Iraqis depending on who is doing the estimating.

The beauty of god is all around us whether it be wasp larva hatching inside of a caterpillar and eating it alive from the inside out or in the simplicity of a pile of dog crap.

Someplace someone is being raped, tortured or murdered. Praise God!

I can answer from an old church chorus diddy

"hey all, come and gather 'round
were gonna do a hot hit in town
so get off your feet,
common and clap your hands
listen to the beat
and and be sure you can stand

we gonna do........do the 3 monkeys
yeah, we gonna do....oo oooo the 3 monkeys

first ya read the Word,
then ya look around
put your hands over eyes
and don't make a sound

then you hear others ask
and you put your hands to the ears
scream la la lah lah lah
and calm your common sense fears

next you cover your mouth,
no don't let it slip
you want to say what you see
but that's not worship

yeah now your dooooin, doin the 3 monkeys

1, uh
2, uh
3, yeah

now we're believers, now were saved
now we act like we don't see
what all others say
we hear the facts
we know it's not what god said
so we deny and go about our way
in our church sometimes it slips
but god will forgive truth comes from lips

yeah we will always doooooo, do the 3 monkeys

the end

now next, our god is an awful god

I see both sides.I am a strong believer in a higher power>I believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sins, and I worry when I sin about my conviction from my heavenly Father.I say I see both sides because most people think or feel that it needs to be tangible.Alort of people have no foundation,or are not rooted in things.I mean that to say,I was taught about how Jesus loves me,about the other side, and prayer.I beleive there is an answer for everything, from the reason that I get up in the morning right down to how the sun rises and sets.I study my word and I honestly can feel the difference in my life with him in it.Just as someone can open up a book in school and study it and elieve what they see written, why can't the same be true for the BIBLE..I believe we all believe in something,or we would not exist..Everyone has a foundation rooted in some sort of belief. You believe that if you don't smoke you won't get cancer,if you have your tubes tied you won't get pregnant. Its all in the individual...I don't knock what anyone believes..I trust and know that there is a God and on judgemnt day I have to answer for me

A system of personal belief and conviction, that's all. I happen to believe in a God, but also in evolution (which for me is not a theory anymore given the great strides in histrorical research). And the amount of belief I have in the New Testament can be printed on one page.

Theistic Evolution. Please check it out and read both pros and cons of it.

Just a question...is it God you do not believe in? Or is it the popular description of God through religion?

We atheists/agnostics are perhaps more convicted because we can explain and argue well for our beliefs. There aren't really any arguments from the Christian perspective because it's all based on faith. Blind adherence and rational understanding are very different...

Some people just do. Stop trying to make them change their way of believing and just respect them and their rights to do so as you would want them to respect you and your right not to believe.

You are entitled to your beliefs just like everyone else is.

"Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind".

But Honey, make sure you are VERY persuaded! To look around this wonderful universe of ours and feel that is was all an evolutionary accident......I honestly believe it takes hundreds of times MORE Faith to be an atheist than to believe in an almighty loving and all-powerful God!

Peace!

Childhood indoctrination, emotional manipulation, and human instinct to follow and want to belong.

Humans have been emotional animals for far longer than rational ones. That's why religion has such a hold.
