Yes. The technology to sense the voltage and adjust accordingly (240V or 120V) is well established and very reliable. Your razor will work just fine (with the proper plug adapter).

RE:
Will a Braun 5416 razor that says it accepts voltage from 12-240 AC work in Europe w/o a transformer?
The more general question is: do devices that say on the back or on their power adapter that they take voltages up to 240 really do so(another example would be my iBook G4, whose power brick says 100-240V), or will they just blow up when using the higher voltage overseas?

If the label says 100 - 240 V, then they will work on any voltage in that range and you don't need a transformer. If necessary, electronics are included to control what actually gets into the motor. Some devices have dual range, e.g. 100-120 and 200-240 volts; these have a switch which you set to the appropriate voltage.

Assuming the mfgr. is being honest, these devices will work. And why should they deceive you? They would only get a lot of claims against them. I've taken devices with such labels overseas many times and had no problem. You still need to have the right plug end for whichever country you are visiting. One style works in the UK and Ireland, and a completely different style on the Continent.

Because of the first amendment of the American constitution, your right to freedom of speech allows you to say that. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and I think you are wrong about this. Yes America has it's faults, but at the same time so does Europe. No nation is perfect.

read the labels, this kind of devices are designed with travelers in mind. they normally work 120-240 with no problem
if it does not work, it will be cheaper to buy another one, compared to the adapters and the hassle of carrying more stuff in your bags.

They will work, but you will need the plug adapter (NOT the voltage converter). Without the plug adapter, the plug won't fit into European outlets.
PS most mainland European countries use the two-round-prong standard:
( O . O )
whereas American is:
[ || . . || ]
