I don't know about y'all, but I am up to here with all these cell/mobile phone users not using proper etiquette when talking on their phone. What gives?
1) Watching a movie, and some jerk was behind me using the walkie-talkie feature of his phone, so I got to hear him and the other person's conversation It lasted about 2 minutes before I went out to complain to theater personnel. When I left the theater, I was confronted with the evil eye of one of his friends. Luckily, I was carrying my toddler son, so I didn't get into a physical altercation.
2) Standing at an ATM, watching somebody take up a place in front of one of the machines, yapping on his phone, about God knows what? The light was flashing, indicating his ATM card was not even in the machine. I gave him a good piece of my mind before a quick exit into the open branch, to complain.
3) Sat next to a lady at work, who spoke on her cell phone at least 4 hours a day (I'm not exaggerating) to all of her friends.

about all of her personal business, throughout the day. Ohh, and she spoke on her landline the other 3 or 4 hours. She worked at least 2 hours overtime, for extra pay, but did nothing! I could not work without a headset. Nobody complained, except me, to no avail.
4) My big thing is the fact that many people who use a phone, in any situation, at home, road, payphone, hate to be interrupted, but put themselves into situations requiring interaction with them.
When are we going to start seeing signs in restaurants saying no cell phone zone, etc. They already do it in libraries and movie theaters. Who wants to see these signs?

If you watch old television shows, you'll see Matri-D's walking over to folks all the time telling them they have a call.
Parents went out on dates and left their kids with babysitters, for years before cell phones became popular. It's called "planning." Give the numbers where you'll be to the babysitter/neighbor/friend, etc.
In retrospect, I think a "cell phone" zone would be non-workable, frm my years of working in a restaurant, we would never have enough space for them, and every person it seems would be carrying a cell, and naurallly say yes to the "cell phone area" cuz they might get a call. Then we'd have 2 people sitting in a spot for 20 and people standing waiting for a cell phone seat. Funny. I remember "smoking/non-smoking" started to get this way, as more and more people quit smoking. Loads of folks waiting for non-smoking seats.

I think there should be cell phone jamming devices in theaters, restaurants, and churches to prevent people from using cell phones there.
If somebody at work is talking excessively on personal telephone calls, either on the company phone or on her cell phone, the supervisor should be aware of it and it should cease. If the supervisor does not know, somebody should tell him or her. Cell phones at work should be used only for personal emergencies. If somebody is taking up too much time on non-emergency personal calls , they do not have enough work to do and should be given additional assignments to keep them busy.

You had a lot of examples but none of them were an argument for a no cell phone section in restaraunts. Theatres and workplaces usually already have a no-cell phone policy, but it doesn't stop the disrespectful people. There are times that it is definitely rude...but you seem like you might be a little over sensitive to it. I think that banning cell phones in restaurants would be stupid....a lot of times a person is waiting on something and they are told to go out and do something and they'll get a call when the person they are waiting to see is ready...should they not be allowed to answer the phone if that person calls? What if a mom is having lunch with a friend and gets an emergency call to pick up her kid from school? You may need to relax a little.

If it's peace and quiet you desire, you rather cannot blame it on mobile telephones. Although cellphone telephones have been prohibited and had to be checked on the door, there isn't a stopping that the party subsequent to you would not be having a loud dialog, joking, ribald comments, and so on. In case you are on my own when eating, you would are trying counteracting with an ipod or personal CD player taking part in soothing music. If you're with someone, you would glance around before being seated and ask for essentially the most remoted desk available. Then there's "take-out," where you and your accompanying individual take the food and go someplace you could guarantee the absence of other men and women. Since folks may also be noisy with out toys.

I totally agree- I see people on their phones when I'm on my way to work- at 6:30 in the morning... who the hell wants to talk to someone at 6:30 in the morning???
Anyway, yes, we should definately have a "rude, talking on a cellphone" section of restaurants. The worst is the guys that are out with their girlfriends/wives, ignoring them to talk on a cell. Chivalry really is dead.

That's a great idea! I'll admit to the occasional public cell phone talking, but I generally keep it quick, quiet, and hang up if I have to do anything that involves personal interaction. I work in customer service, so I know there's nothing more annoying than someone talking on their cell phone when they should be telling you what they want.

Those walkie talkie phones are the most annoying thing when you're in a public place. They're always super loud and owned by the most rude and ignorant people around. Beep beep....beep beep....beep beep. Really annoying.

People are not what they used to be. Everyone's rude. Only problem is when you try to take matters into your own hands, the rude people call you rude. People dont have brains anymore, but not all people. There are only a small group of us are not rude.
