I took my girlfriend and her daughter to a 6 flags theme park and the daughter did not want to get on anything! She walked around the park with misery on her face. Shes 11! My girlfriend got upset when I complained and said "if it was my kid she would have been MADE to have fun!"
who agrees or disagrees with me?
my brother and his daughter and his step child was there too and they were all around her age. And she has said she likes theme parks!

Yes, i would be upset too. I would have MADE my child have fun too and stop acting like a little brat. Or make them wait in the car so they wouldn't ruin everyone elses fun :)

She's 11. Eleven year olds are pretty much full of attitude these days unless you demand otherwise. Of course there is the slight chance that she's uncomfortable with her mom dating, or that rides make her nauseous.

But overall I agree with you; if she wasmy kid she would have been made to appreciate the nice gesture, or at least told how rude it is to NOT appreciate it. And I would have asked her PRIOR to the trip whether she was comfortable hanging out with mommy's date or not. If she was simply not ready for that level of interaction, then I would have found other arrangements for her and have a grown-ups day out.

However, you need to tread lightly. Depending on how close you are to your girlfriend and what kind of parenting dynamic the two of you have agreed upon, she may not like you judging her parenting at this point. Unfortunately dating someone with kids requires a lot of patience and negotiation.

It's probably best if you talk to your girlfriend and ask her what role she'd like you to have, if any, in her daughter's life, and decide from there whether you're comfortable with those arrangements.

Good luck!

I remember this time when I was about 11, my grandparents and my mom took me to 6 Flags and let me go on all the rides and bought me goodies. I had a great day, but for some reason was going out of my way not to show it, I think I remember feeling that it wasn't cool to giggle or smile, so I spent the whole day stone-faced. They kept asking me if I was having a good time, and I kept shrugging and saying yes.

I look back now and realize that I hurt their feelings, they planned a whole day just around me, and I was too into my "I'm too cool" phase to show them some appreciation.

Teens and pre-teens can be pains. Try not to take it too personally, and don't invest too much of yourself in her happiness. Be as good to your girlfriend and her family as you can, but try to keep your expectations realistic.

Every child is different...you can't assume because she likes theme parks she would like Magic Mountain. LOL

Your girl should be a little more understanding...because at least you tried. =)

It's not your fault because you didn't know she wasn't going to have fun...

If that was my child...then I would have taken off and taken her some where else...

Maybe it's you children are usually like that when a man enters their mothers lives and especially if you are not their father. It's their duty to make your life hell and if you really care for the mother then you will keep working towards trying to have a relationship with the child as well as the mother. They are a package deal.

you cant expect a child to like you just like that...she could be hurting from other things like why her parents arent together and things like that..so before you get bent out of shape sit with her and talk she is there is anything bothering her and just let her know you just want to be a friend...talk to her mother and see what drama's her and her daughter has been thru

11 year old will be 11 year olds. Really you can't FORCE a child to be happy, i don't understand how she could've been unhappy because if it were me i would've been hella happy. If she didn't have fun that's her loss, at least you tried.

I'm sorry that she wasn't appreciative, but you can't make someone have fun, especially not an 11 year old hormonal young lady.
