I pulled my radio out and well i cut the car wiring harness instead of the radio. when i hooked all the wires back together and plugged in the big black wire, it wouldn't come on. i have a dodge intrepid. The radio is not fried, there was no smoke and it doesn't smell. When you start the car you can hear it trying to start but it doesn't actually power up.

Number one rule, never cut any wires, ever. They make adapters that fit most any factory harness to connect the radio harness.

You'll just have to recheck all the wires and fuses.

You almost certainly blew a vehicle fuse when you cut the factory harness. Cutting more than one wire at the same time is a good way to blow fuses. You need to check all the fuses in the vehicle, including any fuse box under the hood. Remember that there are always at least two fuses in the vehicle that provide power to the radio unit.

First of all go to this site and look your wiring diagram for your stereo.

After making sure the wires are properly connected and the radio still dont work, check the fuses of the radio in the fuses box,. Usually they have one fuse in under the dash fuse box or in the engine compartment.
