It is rude, and that's why there are new rules at a lot of places around here in the city I live in where you not only can't smoke inside most buildings, you can't smoke within 20 feet of the door of the building as well. You should ask your church if they can make a rule to at least make one exit a smoke free exit, not just the building but anywhere within 20 feet of the door.

Also you can try and explain to these people you don't want your family and friends to breath in their smoke as it can go right into the building when the door opens. Say it nicly and if they get upset explain that you are both church goers and they should care about you just as you would care about them if they asked you to do the same.

They should be considerate of other people entering the church. I agree that they are within their rights to smoke outside the church door.

I would not insist that they smoke in their cars or even in the parking lot. However, I think they should be at least 25 meters away from the door of the church. I don't want to have to go through a blue cloud before I open the door. The distance of 25 meters gives the smoke a chance to dissipate.

The truth is... Unless there is a sign posted outside of the church stating "No smoking on church grounds" it is not considered rude. Although, you find it rude because it is in front of a holy place of worship. But in the eyes of the law, now law has been broken and it is up to the church to make the discretion.

A lot of ppl don't see church as a holy place of worship, most see it just as a building, nothing more. Unfortunately, there are some who are christians with addictions, even still, it is disrespectful. The pastor's and church elders should confront this person and insist they don't repeat it. Otherwise, they are in their rights of having them removed and taken away by local police. It's not unheard of. It's sound cruel, but people who don't listen to reason and break the rules and don't want to change need to be removed. This is a delicate situation that reguires a lot of wisdom.

Yes, some of the worst ppl are Christians, in fact, a true Christian would improve on their behavior. I am one, and have seen a lot of bad apples in my 20 years with churches.

Smoking outside of a church door and any other public place is just plain old bad manners. I work for Kaiser Permanente and they just put in place a no smoking on any Kaiser Campus. I love it. You do see a lot more cigarette butts on the city sidewalk though.

It is just another example of the fact that sick Christians can not help a healthy world.
