The Pope has to have read the Bible. There is absolutely no way he would have become the Pope if he wasn't. Being the pope is based upon your credentials within the religion, how you interpret various things in the Bible, personality, and various other religious standards. He has read the Bible. Cover-to-cover, guarenteed.

As for the whole "gay being a sin" thing I believe that Christians are just afraid of other people's differences so they decided that loving a person of the same gender was a sin. To me, this is the most hypocritical thing in the world. Love is love. And since Christianity is a religion based upon loving and respecting others, tolerating the gay community (whether they had poor childhoods or not) should be part of that belief system.

+ The Pope +

Yes, Pope Benedict XVI has read the Bible. In fact, he can and has read the Bible in the original languages of Greek and Hebrew.

The Pope has doctorate degrees in divinity and theology and he was a university professor.

He can read ancient Greek and biblical Hebrew.

+ Challenges and Suffering +

Many people have asked the questions like:
Why was this person born blind?
Why is this person crippled?
Why can't this couple have children?

These are some of the mysteries about which humans have been asking God for answers since the beginning of time.

Even Job, a just man, asked God why were so many bad things happening to him.

I am not wise enough to answer this question but Pope John Paul II wrote a beautiful letter called Salvifici Doloris, On the Christian Meaning of Human Suffering: http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/john_paul_ii/apost_letters/documents/hf_jp-ii_apl_11021984_salvifici-doloris_en.html

With love in Christ.

Well, John Paul the second had doctorates in Theology, Philosophy, and Epistomology, so chances are he may have glanced at it. The current Pope is the guy John Paul used to ask for advice on Theological matters, so he may have had a peek as well.

Homosexuality is a disorder in the same sense as pedophilia and incest (everyone is going to love me now). Those things are not created by God, but rather are a result of sin and confusion. In any case, homosexuals are not evil, and are endowed with the same dignity as everyone else, so God loves them the same.

First to the pope. I can assure you that in his studies for the priesthood and in his life as a priest, bishop, cardinal and now pope he has studied the bible far more than you can imagine. The mass is full of readings from scripture.

Some people are gay because they are, the same way some people are short, some are tall, some have blond hair, some red, etc.

If God created why are some:
Killers
fornicators
arsons
beastialists
disobeyers of parents
assasins
etc.

all sin is chosen by man. A choice that separates from God.

Sure, the Pope probably has read the Bible.

Pope Ben16 has forgotten more of the Bible than most people with PHDs in Bible ever ever knew. PB16 reads the Bible every day.

I'm no Catholic, But.......

1. The pope probably knows the Bible backwards and forwards, and in maybe 4 languages.

2. Read Romans 1:21-27, about fools who reject God. So God rejects them and allows them to follow their desires-some become gay.

I assume the Pope is quite well-versed in the Bible. How could he be Pope if he wasn't?

I think that there's nothing immoral about being gay. I don't think that God ever said it was an abomination.

Of course the pope's read the Bible. One has to devote their entire life to faith and the study of all matters of Christian theology (not to mention attend seminary) just to become a priest; it takes years and years to go up through the ranks to become a cardinal, and even then only one cardinal is voted into the job of being pope, until they die, typically. If you spent your entire life devoting yourself to your faith, don't you think you'd've read the primary book of that faith at least a few times by the time you reached 80, as well?

I doubt the Pope, nor most people for that matter have read The Bible the way that it was meant to be read...as most only read it 'as it was translated' by others; or only read the parts that others instruct them to; or understand and/or interpret it as others have instructed them to...

I know I am just starting to learn how to read it--and I have read it before several times!?!?

Here's what spiritual teacher and author Joseph John (JJ) Dewey had to say about the gay issue and The Bible:

You can also use the key word "search archives" feature to look up other articles and teachings that he given on the topic as well.
