Did you know that in Islam, a woman has every right to work and keep all of the money she makes to do with as she wills? This does not mean she will, but she has that right. Her husband sins by asking or demanding a single penny from her. Even if she is a millionaire, he may not use her money to support the family and must support the family of his own finances. Did you know that she has the OBLIGATION to get an education, and that any male who stops any female member of his family from obtaining the highest education possible sins according to Islam? CULTURALLY, it's not allowed and these same cultures that claim to be islamic are not even following Islam. She does not need her husband's permission to spend her own money that she earned. She also has the right to demand money from him, and if he refuses, she has the right to just take what she needs if he is not doing his duty. Did you know that she can own property, and he can't have a say in it?

I have been a Muslim all my life, and am clearly aware of the rights a Muslim woman should have according to Islam. And guess what I have received all those rights (like the rights our kind questioner has elucidated).

And not even once, I have felt that Islam has oppressed me or not given me my rights as a woman. Alhamdulillah, I am a software engineer and currently employed. I also keep all the money that I earn!

And with my very own money I pre-ordered Harry Potter and Deatly Hallows just yesterday.

Oh God, how I love Islam!

sounds like islam was decendent from a matriarcal society. How very pagan. I Don't mean to sound smug but it is a shame when these tenents get stifled and nearly erased by a male dominated culture.

Yes, I did know this, and I think it is truly sad that the cultures that claim to follow the religion don't even allow this. Does it remind you of anything?

Um, have you ever been to Saudi Arabia? What is merely said and written is not necessarily practiced in the real world. Trust me, I've to Riyad and what you say is not practiced.

Nor is it practiced in Oman or Kuwait. I have an older sister in Kuwait and she says the suppression women is incredibly stifling.

Idealism aside, what you say *might* be true amongst moderate Mulims in America, but not in the general Islamic world.

wow, that makes the situation for women in those cultures that claim to be islamic and are twisting and abusing that religion to keep such imbalance in place so much sadder somehow. how frustrating it must be for them.

well alright then. but that's awfully mean to the husband isn't it? why should he have to give up his money when she gets to keep all of hers? and why should he have to stupport the family singlehandedly if his wife is a millionare?
