I'd look up on the internet world wedding traditions and see about some French traditions and some Brazilian traditions that you can combine.

There are many traditions though if any of you have other ethnicities in your blood. Africans often jump the broom. In Carib nations/latin america often the bride gives the groom a bag of gold coins. Jews smash the glass under their foot.

In England its the Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue and a sixpence in your shoe.

Look up not just current traditions for your countries but older traditions as well that you might like to start back up.

Or you could pick a theme that kinda combines the 2. Like Carnival or Marte Gras.

Congrats!

Low budget, I'd go Vegas.
Unique, I'd go Vegas.
Every hotel, casino, location has affordable wedding packages, for all budgets. You can get married on a pirate ship, the Star Trek Enterprise, atop the Stratosphere looking out over the entire strip, in a pink convertable at the drive thru while Elvis croons to you. Or in a quaint chapel. I highly recommend Vegas.

We are going to do a sand ceremony in addition to the candle lighting.

It's where the bride and groom have their own colored sand and together they pour it into a vase. Then the officiant explains that just as the sand has come together, the couple has joined together. And you can not take back every grain of sand into its own again. The two are joined together. That's a crappy explanation, but the symbolism is wonderful.

I'll come back with more ideas :)

Instead of doing a unity candle you can do a unity sand jar...get 3 beautiful jars - clear would work best and then you can each get sand/dirt from your home towns. Instead of lighting a unity candle you can pour the sand from your home towns into a single jar together.
