It's been postulated by some respected Moslem Elders that if the billions of moderate Muslims guided the extremists back to the true faith and turned in the hard-core cases to the appropriate authorities, our great religion would once again be respected as the pre-eminant religion it once was during the Golden Age of Islam (fl. 750 - 1258)...WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ???

Thank you all for your thoughts, BUT where are my brethren...TOO scared to comment?

TO SISTER nada:
How does one question the sincerity of a brother fighting for a new "Golden age for Islam", but not those trying to tear it down? You DO NOT denounce those who are trying to destroy our great way of life, but admonish a simple servant of Allah! I hope you won't be too frightened to answer...I mean no harm to those assisting me in this endeavor to stop extremists as they 'try' to trash the world's one and only preeminent Religion. Show supplication & ask the Supreme Being for forgivness and He shall forgive you !!!

Many people of the Book wish, out of sheer envy from themselves, that, after you have believed, they could turn you again into disbelievers after the truth has become manifest to them. But forgive and overlook till Allah brings His decree. Surely Allah has the power to do all that He wills.

Those to whom We have given the Book recognize it even as they recognize their sons, but surely, some of them hide the truth knowingly.

Mankind were one community, then they differed among themselves, so Allah raised Prophets as bearers of good tidings and as warners, and sent down with them the book containing the truth that He might judge between the people wherein they differed. But then they began to differ about the Book, and none differed about it except those to whom it was given, after clear Signs had come to them, out of envy towards one another. Now has Allah, by His command, guided the believers to the truth in regard to which they (the unbelievers) differed; and Allah guides whomsoever He pleases to the right path.

And the Jews will never be pleased with thee, nor the Christians, unless thou followest their creed. Say 'Surely, Allah's guidance alone is the true guidance,' And if thou follow their evil desires after the knowledge has come to thee, thou shalt have from Allah, no friend nor helper.

O People of the Book! Why do you confound truth with falsehood and hide the truth knowingly?

And when it is said to them, 'Create not disorder in the earth,' they say, 'We are only promoters of peace.'

That age characterized by its Muslims as a community and as an individuals. Main reasons for Muslims weak are:
1- Ignorance of Muslims: most of Muslims do ignore the real Islam and have in general very low Islamic knowledge. Solution: All Muslims with no exception should have min level of Islamic Education.
2- Care too much about this life and forget the life after: most Muslims do not understand that this life is a place where we can reserve for the future (after death).
3- Innovation in Religion (Beda'a): who invent any small thing in Islam he just like saying the religion is defective.
4- Committing too much of Major and minors sins which is a result of #2 above.
We should go back to the golden age of Islam that started from the 1st year of Hijrah of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH).

And Allah Knows Best

Im not an islam follower but it seems that bringing extreamests back into the fold of the moderates should be a huge goal. One of the goals of most major religions is to get more people believing what they do. So inorder to do that most of the time you have to find people who dont know much about religion and hope they buy your stuff. But some of the time you can get people from a similar belief/religion onto your camp. This seems like a good starting point for moderate islamic people because the extreamest are perceived as the bad guys by much of the western society today. If your options are to do nothing or something about it I suggest you make the choice of doing something about it however big or small your part it will be remembered by someone.

Good luck. If the majority of moderate Muslims were somehow able to reign in the extremists who continue to ruin the image of Islam in the eyes of the rest of the world, you'd be doing Islam a huge service--not to mention the thousands killed by handfuls of extremists around the world every year. All religions would do well to either control or get rid of their extremists... but somehow I doubt this is likely to ever happen, and certainly not any time soon for Islam, given the growing popularity of Islamic radicalism. No harm at least in trying, though...

Many extremists are putting the wrong idea in the whole entire world. Many muslims ask why are they doing this? and are they really muslims or do they work for someone? it's highly possible these so called muslims are actually wanting to make the face of Islam look like the face of the devil. we must keep in my that the prophet(pbuh) was a very patient man. he gave us the mission of explaing our religon nicely to people who were willing to listen. Muhamed(saw) once made the mistake himself by explaining the religon to a well respected leader who was not willing to listen(as told in sura 80 3basa) rather then explaining it to a blind man who was willing. so now we come to the question are these extremists willing to listen? or do they not care about islam other then the way they want to understand?
and always keep in mind that there is no compulsion in religon
may Allah guide us all on the straight path and show the world the true face of Islam
Ameen

Sorry, I missed your question until a sister directed me to it (thanks sis!).

My thoughts are that I agree with you completely. In this day and age the name of Islam has been severely slandered not by "kafirs", not by "dirty Jews" and the evil west, but by a worst kind of evil: those who call themselves Muslim while living the life of a hypocrite. Today we have Muslims who are given reserved seating in khotba's and at Hajj, who stand in front of the ummah reciting Quran and declaring war to those who are unjust to Muslims and calling everyone to make da'wah. When they go home at night, they relax with on-call prostitutes and sip their whiskey and smoke their hashish while their pockets are being filled with the blood stained money of the fellow Muslims they're robbing it from. We've seen it all too commonly and I don't have to bring names into it for you to know who I am talking about.
The problem with this idea you propose is that those types aren't going to listen for two reasons:
1) it isn't going to benefit them because if they do become moderate, they risk losing that sense of being on top of the world and risk losing the support of his fellow extremists
2) they see themselves as superior to all other Muslims and aren't going to take the advice or direction from someone who doesn't declare war on the head of every non-Muslim they come across.
So I really don't know what the answer would be, it's so complicated to just pop one out without alot of focus and concentration. But if it were to happen, it would certainly be a HUGE step forward for the ummah and the effects it would have on the rest of the world as well.

I think you made the right choice by converting to Islam.
But some people are still doubtful about Islam. Islam does not involve violence at all. Usama is just a crap as well as those suicide bombers. Cause in the first place, comitting suicide is just a path to hell. That's what many people in this world doesn't understand. I'm a muslim and does that means I have to hate Christian? No, there's no need to do that at all.

2007-06-08 06:58:15 · answer #7 · answered by Anonymous · 2 1

i think so too.because in my opinion many extremists are forgetting little parts of the religion like: you can't force someone to convert to islam and that it's not right to fight non muslims unless they attack you and also other than religion many of the people that die or get injured in their bombings are muslims or innocent children and people. So yes if they were informed and told and guided back to the true faith, ppl's idea about Islam will totally change to the better.

your question is really good, brother, and hopefully we all shall work on this....but my comment actually is on this part you said : where are my brethren..Too scared to comment?
which makes me a bit doubtful of being sincere in your argument or request.... a True Muslim is never scared or feared except from Allah, so why would anybody be scared from answering your question. get my point?!
