It took the Southern Baptists until 1995 to apologize for their role in slavery!!! (Southern Baptists are Southern, because they broke from the Northern Baptists over slavery...thinking it ordained by God)

How many gay people have they turned away from the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ with their rhetoric, campaigns and outright hate speech...calling homosexuals, degenerates, abominations and scum of the earth.

They were out of touch on slavery for 150 years....why do they think that they are not out of touch about the social issues of our day.

Slavery is Biblical...but, they no longer call for the literal interpretation as they did in the 1800's...

Your thoughts?

yes, I have posted similar things in the past...but, as long as the fundies use the Adam and Steve analogy..I will continue to use the Baptists out of touch analogy.

Same person again I think.
I have a gay cousin and he said that verse you were
talking about doesn't mean they're gay.
Okay, you are lumping all Southern Baptists in the same
category. Not all SBs think gays are the scum of the
earth and not all of them had slaves. There are others
who had slaves besides some of the SBs by the way.
Why don't people take a lesson out of the Bible and do
this?
Forgive. Jesus forgives.
And why don't people Forget?
That's why there is so much racism and hate in the world-
people don't want to Forgive and Forget. They don't want
Peace. I am not talking about the war in Iraq- though it's
ironical- they want Peace there but it will never be Peace
here. Not with people still having racism and hate in their
hearts. So Long.

Some people are going to interpret the bible in their own ways forever. They will never see the light until the light hits them. After all, look at the rapture theory? It started in the 1800s by some woman called Margaret McDonald (I think was her name - something like that) when she misjudged a bible passage and some people still believe in it today. This is just part of being a human. The trick is not to judge...leave it alone if they won't change. As always, its better late than never...but they'd better hurry up cuz I think time is running out...

Society may have changed, but God and his principals have not and never will. No one owes the homosexuals an apology for anything, it's a path of ones own choosing. It is a day to grieve when Jesus and homosexuality are connected in any spiritual way from a view point of disgrace such as your interpretation.

All sin, homosexuality included, is abhorrent to God. The bible makes this clear. Opposing the homosexual agenda of normalization is not something I feel bad about doing. Yes, I am Southern Baptist.

By the way, slavery is PRESENT in the bible. Slavery is not CONDONED in the bible. Show me the scripture reference condoning male-male or female-female intimate relationships and I'll re think my position.

They'd have to stand in line behind the Middle Eastern Muslims, wouldn't they? Never going to happen. In the case of the Baptists, it's the mainstay of their religious beliefs, their "cause célèbre." If it wasn't for their on-going campaign to save the souls of gays, whatever would they do with their time? Who knows what mischief they might get into? Maybe we should leave well enough alone.

I hope the day will come when Christianity will be about the teachings of Jesus and not the agenda of the church.

I don't think pointing fingers helps anyone.

We need to take the long and difficult road of changing the way people think.

Never and I don't think they should. Homosexuality is an abomination. They, along with all Christians should stand up against it.
