In the last 6th century Pope Gregory ordered them destroyed because they did not further the position of the church. All you have to do is read them and see why. Someone, or someones, hid them carefully so they would survive.

Not sure if 'someones' is even a word, but you know what I mean.

No, we have them because the people who hid them wanted them to be found. Obviously when the authorities have your material under the ban, the only option is to hide it, with the uncertain hope that the finders will be more sympathetic.

Gnosticism is a strange and fascinating "version" of Christianity. The principal idea, of "God" coming among us in human form to show us the "way" to transcend the fears that are based on our mortal limitations, is compelling and could even now add depth to Christian spirituality. The Biblical literacy and hierarchical authority structure that arose in orthodox Christianity stifled the development of personal spirituality.

Gnosticism wasn't perfect. It was encumbered by the needlessly complicated theology of the demi-urge, the "true" God and Sophia, and its emphasis solely on personal development worked against the Christian idea of charity and often led to a spiritual dead end when further esoteric inspiration failed. Its lack of community elements most likely doomed it, isolating its adherents and suggesting an appearance of arrogant superiority to ordinary "church" Christians.

But its core belief is much more empowering than the notion of divine "atonement" for helpless sinners. Christ's "way" becomes the path by which we each learn the truth that "divinity" is within us to discover. And "becoming Christ" is not just a matter of imitating his actions but assuming his attitudes, not taking the details of life so seriously and focusing on the deeper meanings.

Just reading the texts is likely not the whole of what Gnosticism was, nor might we assume we thoroughly understand them. But the texts are tantalizing, not just for their obscurity but for the ideas they suggest. It is no wonder they were suppressed by the orthodox leaders.

Yes, I do believe that discovery along with the secret gospel of Mark and the gospel of Judas were manipulated by the divine at this time as we enter into the new age that will be the age of our mother the Holy Spirit.

I don't know about that, but I'm sure there are other books to be found. I wonder what happened to all of Jesus's writings? Could it be that what he wrote went against what his followers believed?

Your source is dubious. As to the rest it would be speculative.
