the police can give you a copy of the police report.

First you need to contact your insurance company and have them do the legwork. they can contact the police and get all the needed information on the driver, and send you a copy as well.

If he has insurance there is no need to worry...However, since he fled on foot, that tells that either he did not have insurance or he was wanted for something else.

If you are living in California, or any other state that requires "no-fault" insurance, you should be covered. (assuming you have insurance). If you do not have the "no-fault" insurance in your state, your insurance will probably give you a settlement for your car, based on Kelly Blue Book.

If he does not have insurance your rates will probably increase a bit, even though it wasnt your fault.

As for being able to get money from the guy if he has no insurance, good luck. You could take him to small claims court, but in some states, insurance clauses prevent that from happening.
Good luck to you.

You won't be paying anything other than your excess - your insurer will. Pass all correspondence to your insurer - do not enter into dialogue with the other driver. It's fairly typical for someone to say the damage was only slight - to the uninformed it can look that way, but a lot of the damage can be out of sight - an experienced claims assessor would know what to look for. Her clothes, for example, may have been in the boot and the impact could have caused something to spill on them - maybe a tin of paint that she'd just bought from B&Q, for example! The nitty gritty of the claim is not your problem - let your insurer deal with it.

Go to the PD and ask for the traffic accident report for the date it happened. The persons address and phone number should be on that report. If you have uninsured motorist coverage your insurance company will cover the loss and pay you fair market value of your vehicle if it is paid off other wise your stuck with no car and your responsible for paying off the auto loan.

Let YOUR insurance company sort through this. If by some slim chance the doofus that hit you has coverage then your company will subrogate for the entire cost of repairs (including your deductible, which will be returned to you.) If he has no insurance but somehow manages to stay out of jail your company will go after him directly. They will take everything he owns, or at least until he files for bankruptcy.
See this everyday.

Do you have uninsured motorist coverage? If you do go with that. It does not go on your record and It does not effect your premium. Also depending on your state the deductible is half the normal. Ex. If you rdeductible is $500 then with uninsured motorist it is $250. Make sure to have your Ploice Incident Number when you call te insurace company.

Call your insurance company and file a claim. Use the police report as evidence.

The police have him, his car, and his license plate number, so you need to tell the police that you want to press charges against the man for leaving the scene of an accident.

The police should have all his information, so you need to ask them for it, so you can get the money for your car through your (or his) insurance.

Get his name and take him to court if he doesn't have insurance. And you'll still get your money.

Cheers

Call your insurance agent, let them take care of it.

Hopefully, you either have comp./ coll. coverage or uninsured property damage coverage.
