Science cannot explain some of the most easily observable aspects of existence such as magnetism and gravity. Why then should we accept its aTheroy on evolution which is far more complex. ( if you think science can explain gravity and magnetism, I challenge you to do a 10 minute internet search and study on the subject and you will be confronted )

Who said gravitation is easy to explain? Its a force that obviously exists, but not easily explained. At one time scientists felt that all diseases came from "bad air". As science evolved (yes I said evolved) they learned about bacteria and virus. So someone could have made your exact same arguement 125 yrs ago using disease as the example. Just because they cant explain it yet does not mean they wont. And magnetism is caused by the alignment of atoms as the shell of the earth rotates at a different speed than its iron core. It has been understood for decades.

Modern science does explain magnetism and gravity. Just because they're complicated doesn't mean they're unknowable. The theory of evolution seems much simpler to me, but I'm not a scientist. I don't even play one on TV. I was taught about evolution in school and didn't find anything wrong with it. In fact, the Pope said that's how God created man, through millions of years of evolution. I'm not sure how I feel about what the Pope says on a lot of stuff, but in this case, he seems reasonable.

I'm not sure where you got the idea that gravity and magnetism can't be explained. We know the basics of both of those ideas, certainly; otherwise, we couldn't do many of the things we take for granted today. We CERTAINLY understand magnetism (you have heard of mag-lev trains, I presume???) We can't manipulate gravity as well as magnetism yet, but I certainly think that's just a matter of time. And if they're so "simple" - why don't YOU understand them?

Do you mean 'explain gravity and magnetism' to YOU? I can see that might be difficult.

After all, if you think either of these is less complex than simple ol' evolution, then you're going to have a hard time of it.

Science cannot explain them, you say?

Hmmm...

Yet we can manipulate magnetism and gravity in many different ways, because we understand how they work... You do realize that, right? I mean, that computer you're using right now is working because we understand magnetism...

Seriously, you do know that right?

Therefore, is it so hard for you to comprehend that we also understand how evolution works, and can therefore base the majority of modern medical science upon that understanding?

Really, I'm sincerely hoping that you're joking here....

I would say we have a reasonable grasp of magnetism:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetism#Physics_of_magnetism

But not really of gravity. Experiments are being planned to see if string theory can produce a viable model.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravity

O.K. That took me way less than 10 minutes.

So, if you can give me an explanation of gravity or magnetism in terms of God, that is better than the current level of scientific explanation, then I will stop being an atheist.

It must be a valid explanation, not just 'Because He made it that way.'

If you can not - what does that do you your faith?

You reap the benefits of modern science probably every minute of every day. It just works.

And actually, evolution is a much simpler process than gravity or magnetism. We understand its mechanisms extremely well, and the data seem to line up with it every single time.

As a typical christian, you have grossly misrepresented and oversimplified something very complex in order to perpetuate your beliefs..!

Don't pretend for a second that you have an understanding or grasp of modern mainstream science, because if you did you would have a lot more repect for it's position and conclusions..

You are just an ignorant religious fruitcake who's sworn enemy is knowledge of the natural world.. This is a very psychotic and delusional state of mind, and you're in denial..

Fruitcake..

Why can't christians prove that dragons and unicorns once roamed the earth? And if they can't prove that how about Jesus walking on water, can they prove that? Did Jesus exist or was he just a figment of the imagination of those who claimed to be his disciples? If these thing cannot be proved than why would anyone want to accept anything else in the bible? It's a two way street isn't it?

Let us consider this.....evolution is a process of change. Slow change over time. I believe that God used the process of evolution to create our planet. This way, we can recognize a high intellectual being, orchestrating creation, through a logical process.

Remember, the 24 hour day may not be a day in Gods time. God does not walk in our perspective, but we should try to see beyond ours, and we can gain greater understanding of Gods perspective.
