As a Catholic i would say yes and no. Sometimes I feel like I have everything i need and if i am not careful, i will subconsciously feel like i don’t need God and therefore start slacking on praying. But then there are times when everything around me falls apart and I feel like God was the only thing that kept me alive. I don't trust the things or people of this world to be there for me 100% of the time, so in answer to your question, yes, if I denied God, i would feel like there was nobody there to lean on when times got rough, which eventually happens to every one.

I'm a believer, a Catholic, and I've been very pissed at God in the past but never stopped believing that He actually existed. I became the devil's advocate in Catholic high school, flunked religion class my senior year because I refused to read the Bible. I rebelled against my parents and God. I got so pissed that I literally yelled at Him and told him to go to hell. For 15 yrs I turned my back on Him. I turned around 5 yrs ago and asked for forgiveness and my life is better with Him next to me.

If I were to become an atheist and 'come to the conclusion that He doesn't actually exist', I would have to lean on myself and other people. Just like I did for those 15 yrs when I tried living my life on my own. For those 15 yrs all hell broke loose. I opened myself up to people and got hurt. When I went to another person for help, they hurt me too. Family hurt me. Even a counselor hurt me. People lie, cheat, steal. Mess with your emotions like it's a game. Now that I am back in line with God, yeah, some people are still asses, but I can lean on God at any moment with no worries. I can open the Bible and read and get instant help and guidance. God knows right when I need a kick in the rear to get my open my eyes and ears to my surroundings. People aren't as intelligent as they think they are. We are weak and sinners, we err all the time, even if we think we are doing our best. But I've found that only God is the best at all times. If I would become an atheist, I would go into a deep depression again.

Do you think if u denied transportation and sold your car, that you wouldnt have a vehicle to drive in? Well you could always take a bike but that obviously is a very primitive mode of transportation.

There are people and things you can try leaning and depending on but all will fail you and cant save you. God however never leaves or forsakes us.

Well, speaking as a believer, I can't even imagine denying the existence of God. It's as real to me as the air that I breathe...even more real than that. Without a God to create me I wouldn't even exist.

Not all "believers" are created equal.

While there are some who would use God as a crutch, the vast majority of Christians do not.

As you've seen here on Y/A - many are Christians JUST so they can use God as a weapon of their bigotries and hatreds.

So too, there are people of deep faith. Pure faith. God is not someone you "lean on." God is someone you work for.

My boss is a Jewish Carpenter.

Many adventurers and scientists search for history, truth, or other such things - because of God.

Many doctors or police officers or firemen or soldiers - are so because of their faith.

This is active faith.

if there were no believers, then from whom would atheists acquire their superiority complex from?

this question wouldn't exist if there were no believers.

but to answer the question, yes, i think some may feel that way; that when there's God there's always someone there.
