Always stretch before and after, start off slowly running a couple of days a week. Running outside I find is easier and you can take your mind off of it and be able to control your breathing. Shoes are very important, and make sure not to eat or drink too close to running.

Pick a race to train towards. I recommend the 5K. The 5-K is a great distance for every level of runner. It's fail-safe short for fidgety first-timers. There's one nearly every weekend for personal-record-chasing intermediates. And it's the ideal fast time trial, tough tempo run, or 10-K-to-marathon tune-up for veteran competitors.

Run slow-easies(you go long distance with sprints in) work on getting your legs farther and farther in your strides, and sprint the last bit.
