Why not:
-use the Internet to look up your family history? Start at familysearch.org or www.rootsweb.net (and talk to your parents/grandparents to get info)
-learn a new language? start at www.byki.com and look for Before you know it Lite. It's a free program you can download and begin learning a language of your choice. If you like it, you might get your parents to purchase one of their full programs. I'd be thrilled to help my daughter take on a course of study.
-volunteer? If you can get to Habitat for Humanity or your local soup kitchen, see if they need help. You might also talk to your church about opportunities if you go to a church.
-learn to knit or crochet and make blankets for either people in nursing homes or babies who were stillborn? Here's a list of several organizations that might take your crafts: http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/charity-links.html
-volunteer to tutor a younger student who is struggling? The summer is a great time for these kids to catch up. Talk to your parents about this. You can spend free time making up games and activities for the kids you tutor. It would really help the other kid and it would make you feel great!
You could also start a hobby, like stamp collecting, backyard birding or painting.
Good luck! :)
P.S. If you are over 12, you could take the Red Cross's babysitting course and maybe look after a child who is younger than you. You might make a bit of money and you'd be helping out a family who might have to leave their younger (8-10) child alone because school is out.

What about finding a hobby? There are plenty of summer activities that are free and will allow you to do something fun with other kids. Maybe try the YMCA or boys and girls club. Look in your local papers or city and county websites. Volunteer at a park or hospital or something like that. There's nothing more meaninful than helping people who need it! Good luck and have fun. Don't take yourself too seriously! :)

Number 1, Get off that computer, or at least limit your time on there. Get out of that house, walk to a park, mall, friends house, you can waste away alot of days or even weeks that quickly turn to months , glued to a pc, get out around real people, or you will find pc is the only life you have . Get ciculating. I know thye are addictive, Ive had friends tell me they tried to call to invite me to a party, etc, only to recieve a busy single. After awhile they gave up , dont let that happen to you, get back in contact.
