... generally speaking.

Please answer only if you are fairly certain.

"Light beer" obviously has fewer calories, so please compare only regular and dark.

There isn't a definitive difference between dark and light in regards to calories. It seems like the darker mass-produced beers are equal in calories to the mass-produced light ones. But the smaller, "specialty" breweries or microbrews tend to have a higher calorie content, regardless of dark or light. There's a list of caloric and alcohol content at this site:

Not totally comprehensive, but a pretty good start.

Calories In Dark Beer

No, not necessarily. The caloric content of any type of beer is dependent upon the alcohol level. The higher the alcohol content, the more calories it will have.
The color of dark beer is the result of roasting the malt before brewing. This process does not add or subtract any calories from the finished product.
However, a 24oz. beer will have twice as many calories as a 12oz. one. Research into this phenomenon is ongoing.

It is not the darkness of the beer that makes it high in calore content, it is how thick and rich the beer is. Or the level of hops and yeast used that in crease of decrease the calorie content. Guiness for example has lots of calories and Budweiser doesn't

Dark beers don't contain more calories than light color beers but they do containd more unfermented dextrins, which are more fattening.
The grains used to darken and add richness to dark beers are not as efficient in fermentation and therefore leave behind sugar in the beer which adds texture and flavor.
Although this doesn't translate into calories it does add the pounds!

Not necessarily. For example, Guiness stout (very dark) is lower in both calories and alcohol than most other beers.

Color in beer comes from using certain dark grains. There is no realtion to color and calories or fat or carbs or alcoholic strength or anything.
