I don't think you have to be a Christian to fear what is in the future. Fear is a natural, human emotion. We all fear the unknown in some way or another - some just have more than others. Some show it outwardly and some keep it inside. Some have learned to deal with it and some realize that they can't let fear rule their lives.
Which one are you?

This is the basis of the religion. Without fear, followers might question, and if they question, they might stop believing, and then they can no longer be controlled.

Christianity is based on the concept that we are all basically bad people, and without it to control us, the world will devolve into chaos. As the exact opposite has happened (the more secularized a society becomes, the better the society becomes), religions must create imaginary fears with which to threaten their followers - and the claim of future terror is impossible to disprove, and often has self-fulfilling prophecy-actors to help verify it.
