We noticed this yesterday, today it seems a little better.
But we still don't know what to do...

I would definitely suggest taking him/her to the ER. Any kind of blood coming out is not a good sign.

Blood in a dog's stool can be caused by a number of things. It could be that your dog has worms, something that she ate could have irrated her bowels, or it could be more serious. I would call a different vet if the one you normally use is away. Going to an emergency clinic can be very expensive and I would try to avoid that option in this case. Just get an appointment with another vet right away.

Collect a fresh sample from your dog at home if you can. Just a small amount in a ziplock bag will be good to bring to the vet's office, so they can check for parasites.

Melena is the presence of digested blood in the feces and makes the stools appear black and tarry. Melena is different from fresh blood in the stool (hematochezia). Melena may represent a severe, life-threatening illness, and should not be ignored. It must especially be addressed if it persists or worsens.

Melena develops when bleeding occurs into the stomach or small intestines. The bleeding must be high in the intestinal tract in order for the blood to be digested and become discolored. Bleeding into the colon or rectum (hematochezia) appears as fresh blood in the stool.

General Causes

Infectious agents

Certain drugs

Cancer

Foreign bodies in the stomach or intestines

Infiltrative and inflammatory gastrointestinal diseases

Ingestion of blood

Coagulopathies (bleeding disorders)

You most likely should if it continuse past a day, make sure to bring a sample (yes I know that sounds grosse) but it will make it go faster and they can check the actual problem a little bit more easily.

does your vet have his own practice or does he share an office with other vets? If he shares, see if one of the other docs can see your dog...that way they have your previous records. Good luck!!
