"frank" in this usage would be synonymous with "overt"- meaning the blood was obviously visible. as opposed something like microscopic hematuria- which is where blood in a urine sample isn't visible to the naked eye, but can be seen under a microscope.

Sounds like the name of a character in a movie, but it's not. It's blood you can see.
Examples: You can have blood in your urine that is detectable only by a urine test - that is occult blood. If you pee and SEE blood, that would be "frank blood"
If the toilet water turns red after you poop - that's frank blood, too.
Hope that helps.

Frank blood is when directly a blood vessel bleeds and the same blood is seen outside the body. When blood vessels in stomach get ruptured the patient vomits frank blood.

bright red blood is because he is bleeding from lower down in his intestinal tract. Had he eaten anything unusual in the day or so before he first started bleeding? He may have ingested something that is stuck or cut him, in which case he may need surgery. Whip worms do cause blood in stool but more noticeably a nasty textured waste that looks like pudding mix without enough milk. Very grainy and nasty and smells so bad you can taste it. Our former dog had whip worms and he would be fine for a couple weeks then have bloody diarrhea. Have a stool sample done if you haven't already and that will check for intestinal parasites. If that is inconclusive discuss the possibility of an obstruction with your vet. If at any time your vet stops being helpful or won't do tests for you - please check with another vet.

That which is easily seen and identified. Like blood from a wound. Its opposite is "occult" (ie. hidden) blood which needs to be detected via chemicals, as in tests for colon polyps.

It isn't brutally honest, but just a way of saying it's overt, as opposed to "occult blood," which does not participate in devil worship, but is just not easily seen. English is a remarkable language, isn't it?
