I studied early childhood development in college and sometimes you may see this behavior early on with children that have autism. BUT, don't get worried right away since autism comes with a lot of other symptoms and behaviors.
As long as she is developing normal on the other milestones for her age (walking, trying to talk, etc...) I wouldn't be worried about one thing.
Some babies also develop different ways of self soothing, a tiny step into their "independence".
Keep watching her and take her to the pediatrician if it concerns you anymore.
Happy parenting and best wishes!

Rocking is a sensory seeking activity (as long as you make sure nothing medical is going on). Does she do while stressed? Is the environment loud? Is she more aware of her environment after wards? How long does she rock? It's an open ended question. Watch her and log her activities for at least 2 days. Write down what she's doing every hour, and see if her rocking is calming her, or making her more alert. I would be happy to answer with more detail, but I need more detail.

I hate to even suggest this as I could be COMPLETELY wrong and I don't want to scare you. My brother had mild autism and sometimes did this exact thing. However, he had MANY other symptoms as well. She could just be working on learning balance or interested in the patterns on your floor. It really could be nothing. All kids are different. You may want to talk to your Dr about this just to reassure you that everything is ok and I wouldn't jump to conclusions regardless of what a Dr tells you. If you don't like what you hear, get a second or third opinion. She's probably perfectly fine. Good luck to you.

It's nothing to worry about. My 6 month old niece just discovered the same thing. She sits on the floor with her hands in the air or on the ground and rocks back and forth. There is nothing wrong with it. I would not worry about it.

My 13 month old girl does something like this. We say it looks like she is "humping" the floor. I'm trying not to get to worked up about it. I think it is just a phase.

If every other aspect of her development is going fine then I think she probably has a new game.
FYI, my little boy 2 1/2 loves to run in small Circles. You can either think they are weird or have a great imagination.

Toddlers are so funny that there's not much they won't do. I wouldn't worry too much, she's probably just found something that comforts her. Toddlers are notorious for picking up bizzare habits, and this is probably just one of those.

I don't understand why you would consider this abnormal. She is just experimenting, you have a little thinker on your hands!!!

Sure, why not? Just a new sensation. She should be just fine. If it worries you too much just talk to your doctor at her next check-up.
