Ok i dont want to be an officer because they do not get much field time especially the special forces. However, i still want to try out for the United states Naval academy. So my question is, can you go to the USNA and still ENLIST in the Marines and not be an officer?

Yes,but they'll think you are crazzy.
Your first tour as an officer and then re-up as an enlisted man.
I knew a Marine who did just that,he hated being an officer, resigned and enlisted.

Only if you manage to get yourself thrown out before you graduate. The USNA is meant for those serious about becoming an officer. It costs the taxpayer upwards of $200,000 (1994 dollars) to educate one cadet at a military academy. Going there when you intend to be an enlisted Marine would be a heinous waste of resources. Never mind that you would be the laughingstock of the military, shunned by both officer and enlisted alike. Have you informed the Special Forces that you intend to be a badass yet? Maybe you should tattoo the Navy Seal insignia on your shoulder to show them you are serious. Military service is not a video game or movie. This is serious stuff.

Well obviously if you're in the Marines you have a better chance of dying but at the same time you're really serving you're country. An officer doesn't do as much and let's face it Marines are kick ***. Don't make me make up you're mind it's really what you want to do. Four years dosn't sound to bad so it shouldn't be that bad but really you never know. OCC stands for Officer Candidate Class and OCS stands for Officer Candidate School. Basically OCC is jus a class and OCS is just an actual school you go to.

Whoever told you that Officers don't get "field time" with the Special Forces has absolutely no clue what they are talking about. If you have what it takes to go SEAL, then do it. You will be doing the same thing as the enlisted guys.

I can sympathize with you, as my husband would not be an officer because he liked his enlisted job and all that came with it. Just keep in mind...eventually as you move through the ranks all jobs lead to a desk. Consider the pay difference when you are sitting at your desk as and E-7 with 15 years in and some 0-2 with 3 years is barking orders at you and has no real clue as to what he is doing. One other thing to consider is if you are going to have a family and be military it is my enlisted experience, both active and as a dependent, that an officers pay goes farther. Good luck in your decision.

Talk to one or two recruiters for the Navy and Marines. After they look at you a little crazy they should give you some good answers. Just remember the war in Iraq is winding down. ( We will be out in a year) Be careful. Best to you.

No. There's too much time, money, training, and education coming your way at any of the Academies for you to not graduate with an officer commission. As a taxpayer, I'd be royally peeved if you were to do what you're proposing, and I would demand that you pay restitution, regardless of your patriotic intentions.

Reading your question a second time before I hit "send", I don't even know if you know what you want. Give yourself time to figure it out - you'll be far more effective, and far more of a service to me as a taxpayer, when you do.

Good questin but I don't think you can. When you Graduate from the Naval Academy you are a commissioned officer! You couild resign the commission and then enlist, but then i am not sure why you would?
