Boys are usually very shy and self-concious. They have a great deal of pressure put on them by society and their friends to be tough, strong, and manly.

If you like a boy, just talk to him. Be nice and patient. He may give you only one word answers at first because he really doesn't know what to say.

I'm of the old-school of thought that girls don't ask boys out. I know that's a very unpopular opinion in today's world. If you really like a boy, invite him and some friends to your house to see a movie, or to the movie theater. This way you get to spend time with him, hopefully he'll feel more comfortable in a group, and you'll get to see if he's the type of boy that likes to talk big in front of his friends.

Boys aren't born knowing how to talk to girls. Most feel that everything they say or do is stupid. They really are extremely self-concious.

When I was a dating teen and a dating young woman, if a boy asked me out who was nice and didn't have a rep as being a sexual perv or a stalker, I would go on at least one date with him. I think it must take a lot of courage to ask a girl out, and then if she rejects him, it must just feel awful for him! Even if you nothing but go get a milkshake after school, at least you made the effort to be friendly and social to him. And if you really aren't interested in him, then don't go again. More than likely if you don't feel sparks toward him on the date, he probably won't feel them for you either.

And I have a piece of valuable advice for all the girls out there: today's shy, awkward, goofy looking nerd, is the sweet, sensitive, good looking man of tomorrow!

Boys are no dumber than girls. They're just less sure of themselves at this age. Girls mature much faster than boys. Eventually boys catch up. This is not criticism, it's a scientific fact. From your question I would guess you're pretty young yourself. Boys fear rejection. If you like a boy, ask him to go somewhere with you or to study with you. Once he realizes you're interested in him, he'll ask you out (if he likes you). Good luck.
