My other half's son refuses to leave home at the age of 25. Smokes and sleeps till late. Refuses to work and is hostile, unpolite, ill mannered at the table. What can I do?

Your other half has this responsibility.

This is his/her son who has been allowed to behave like a pig for, what appears, a long time now. Someone is providing him with money for those cigarettes, clothing, etc.

Talk with your partner, let him/her know this is no longer acceptable and damaging your relationship. Son may visit, but not live in. This is not what you expected from a partner.

Pretty tough stuff, huh. Sorry, but this behavious is nothing but piggishness.

i am so in your position right now. i am assuming that your other half and you have fought about the son more than you care to admit. He is old enough to go it alone and if your other half doesnt see it that way then lay down the law and tell the son he has 2 weeks to find a job and when that goal is reached tell him he has 2 months to accumulate stuff for his own place and get out. if these deadlines are not met then maybe you and the spouse should try a little tough love and pack his things for him and change the locks. best of luck to you. email me if you would like to talk further.

I'm guessing you are the husband and the other half is the wife and it is her son that is the slacker based on your id name of "victor". Going on that assumption, I would have a little talk with your wife and tell her this is not cool and can't continue. It's your home too and you have a say, especially with someone who still acts like a 10 year old with adult nasty habits. Tell her if she can't make him leave, you WILL. One of you has to tell him it's time he was out. If he refuses, then I would pack his stuff up in garbage bags, put them on the front lawn while he is out and change the locks! Tough love!

Tell the other half and the loafer that - a. the loafer can get and keep a job and pay his way - b. or the loafer can move to the curb and keep on going - c. if the other half has a problem with that, then show him or her the way to the curb too.

Freeloading continued with my brother till the kids were 37 and 39. He moved to Texas and left them in Virginia on the street.

Do you have your husband's support here? You do need that if not do you know why not? If he smokes and refuses to work where is he getting his money for the smokes? If it is from you or your husband then he is being enabled by you or him and you must refuse to give him that money. The Bible says of the sluggard "if he dosen't work he dosen't eat"
It's easy to see what his payoff is here so the question perhaps to ask is what is your or your husbands payoff? In other words what are you getting out of allowing him to do this?

just a shot in the dark here... it would seem the problem is not the other half's son but rather the other half!! i'd have a heart to heart with HIM and get it out in the open about what needs to be done by whom and when. baring a satisfactory solution, if it is within your power, toss them both out!! if not, leave them with each other, they deserve nothing less.

Talk to your other half and state that the slacker needs to get a good kick in the butt. As in kicked out. Especially since he doesn't contribute money wise to the roof over his head and can't be polite.

Time to get tough!

Start with " Get a f#¢%ing job you bum".

Followed up with " You make me sick".

Then add some "I want to kill you".

Go pick up "Stuck Mojo: Declaration of a Headhunter"

It will help you out.

Tell him to leave and when he doesn't wait until he is out and then hire an contractor to remove the door to his room and drywall over it.
