Why cant I change the page background colour in Microsoft Word?

I know it should be in FORMAT, BACKGROUND, but I dont seem to have background as an option in Format. Any ideas why or how I can go about rectifying this thanks

There are no down arrows and it seems a very basic word compared to what I am use to but its a new computer with Works 8.5 on it

Unfortunately, the additional information that you give indicates why you can't do it.

The word processor installed with Works is a cut down version of Word.

I'm afraid I don't have Works installed so I can't help with directions. I'm not even sure that it's possible.

Well it's in there in mine and the only thing I can think of is that Word has auto hidden not often used features. At the bottom of the drop down menu, is there a pair of down arrows? If yes, click it and things will magically appear, including Background.
