Don't waste any time; asking your vet for a payment plan is the first and best choice. Then other vets in the area, friends who have pets, ask their vets, shelters, propose to volunteer, plan an event where you can raise some money. Try as hard as you can and even harder; I don't know what your situation is like but I would surely try everything if I were you. I would go in debt in a flash light. work day and night, ... WISHING YOU THE BEST FOR YOU AND YOUR DOGGIE.

It's already been said several times but the first thing you should do is talk with the vet about a payment plan. They're animal lovers so most of them would be willing to do this if it's what you have to do to give him proper medical care.
Another possibility is getting a loan. I know you mentioned that your credit isn't great. Is there a family member that could maybe co-sign a loan for you? Or maybe loan you the money themselves?
If neither of those work, and there is no possible way you can pay to have the dog's leg fixed, then maybe you could consider surrendering him to a shelter. Many times they can take in a dog that needs medical attention. Sometimes certain dogs with a special need can be advertised a a "pet of the week" in the local paper for adoption.
I know you probably don't want to hear that, and you don't want to give your dog up--but it's better than putting him down. If you do that you won't have your dog anyway, at least this way he'll still be alive.

Defintly dont put the dog down!!!! Talk to your vet and maybe they can work something out, or even call you rlocal humane society and they may have more answers or places that could help out. For instance I know my vet has acredit plan even if your credit isnt the best. There are ways to do this. Just you will have to do some calling around and such. The poor lab needs you--I have a chocolate lab and would do anything for her even if it broke me for months!! I have only had her a year and have spent close to 3000.00. I find ways to get the money.

Man...This is why my dogs are trained to never go past the neighbor's house. If I lost Wednesday, Judas, Brown-Eye, or Max...I'd die. Charm, she got hit in the bum once, but she's okay, thank God. Your situation is so sad...It truely is.
Well, I understand that you don't have the money. Do you have anyone who can pay for it, and you pay them back later? Find anyone, because the lives of animals are just as important as human beings, if not more. I should know, Wednesday is laying at my feet, and Brown-Eye is under my boyfriend's arm while he sleeps right now. (Wednesday is a Chow mix German Shepherd, Brown-Eye is a Red Nose Pit mix American Bulldog.).
I don't want to say this, because I don't know how they work, I just know that they usually end up badly, but loans? Or, you could go to some place where they take donations. I forgot what they're called...Sorry. The last thing I can think of, if you can't get the money, is to make a deal with the operators if you can pay them back at a certain date, because you don't have the money.
I'm really sorry this has happened. A lot of stuff happens to people, whether it has to do with bills or the ones that they love. I know that we almost resorted to pawning stuff off in order to pay the bills once...
Hopefully, everything will be okay. Try your hardest, all right?

I hate to say this but when you choose to have a pet its just like adoption, they become like a child and are part of the family, you would not leave your child suffering with a broken leg, you would look for ways to help it. heres my suggestion, call your local humane society and or shelter, and explain your situation, they have vets that can help, and the cost will be considerably less or made in multiple payments, perhaps even free. if you cannot afford to pay for the bills you have only 2 options either sign him over to the humane society or put the dog down and do not allow him to suffer. you can also try asking them if they will help your dog in exchange of volunteering time at the shelter. Good luck to the both of you, I hope you can find a solution soon.

Like the others said, set up a payment plan, or put donation jars in stores for your dog. But I just wanted to say that no matter what (unless he's in a life threatening painful situation), DO NOT PUT HIM DOWN over a broken leg. You'll miss him and wish you had done something else, and besides, a broken leg is better than death, i would rather live with that than die over it, and so would he.
(P.S.--You can research on the web how to splint the bone if it gets to the point where you can't pay for it but need to take care of the leg.)

I would definietly talk to the vet about setting up a payment plan. They understand how things work and don't want to have you put down your beloved pet. If the dog was 16, and the quality of ife was going to be impacted, maybe putting it down would be the right path to choose, but that dog has its whole life ahead of it and should get to enjoy it.
In addition, you might see if the animal shelter/SPCA has a program to help out pet owners with vet bills. Sometimes they will be able to help out with the bills or help broker a deal between you and the vet.
Good luck.

I'm sorry to hear of this.
If you truly want to save your pet. Then ask your vet for a payment plan and if he can work with you on the price.
Also if you do decide to go for surgery. Maybe you and your friends can hold a car wash or bake sale. Or ask local stores to put a donation jar for the pet that was hit. You can make the jars and place them in the stores.
We love our pets so much and the pain is incredible when we look them.
So if you decide to put him down Its okay. It will be okay. You will have to come to terms with your decision.
Good Luck!

wow, im sorry for your problem.
the best advise that i think that i could give is to just talk to the vet and see if they have some kind of program that helps people in this kind of situation, i know that this isn't the first time that this has happened at the vet, and if not talk to your parents if possible, or maybe a close relative like a brother or a sister, and ask them for some kind of help if possible, you got to get creative about this, go to work and ask your boss for a raise, dont quit and dont get fired. if that dosent work look around in your local area and see if there is a dogy shelter and ask them for help.
i hope this helps, and wish that i could help in some other way, ive been there before, belive me.

First of all I am truly sorry for what has happend to the poor little thing, but apparently it is loved very much (a big plus). You should telephone your local SPCA (Society for The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) immediately and tell them exactly what you wrote here. I am sure they cannot afford to cover the expenses, but perhaps they can contact the Vet and become an advocate for you at this awful time. Best of luck, My heart goes out to you.
