I think that that is the only song they know.

I am apart of my music ministry at church, and if there is one thing that I have learned throughout the years as a musician is this- it does not matter what song you sing, it is the heart God looks at. God does not think what style is sung, He looks at the person offering Him the praise. By the way, worship is NOT JUST MUSIC- it is something we need to be doing 24/7 with our whole life. Music is a great tool to worship God with- but it is not all worship is. You can attend a church that does hymns only and have people that are worshiping with their whole heart, and go to churches that only do contemporary worship and God is not pleased at all. We must mistake the type of music with what pleases God. It is the worshiper's heart that He looks at- not if they are singing Amazing Grace- or a newer song like "Beautiful One". It is not what I think any way it is about Him.

Up until this generation, those were the only songs they had. Many of the traditional hymns date back 200-400 years. Amazing Grace being an example.
I enjoy that new praise songs, in facts the church I attend uses them every service. But I still enjoy singing one of the :old standards" also.
Each person has their own style of music. As long as they are able to praise God with it, then it is right for them.
Note that in the Bible, God preserved the lyrics from over 150 songs. He preserved the tune for none of them. It is because they "style" of music is not what makes in good or bad. It is the words and the worship it produces. So that is what God preserved.

Some of those old hymns are really beautiful and meaningful. That's their preference. It's when they try and make people with different tastes feel guilty, that's when I have a problem. I grew up hearing how any music made after I was is absolutely horrible and ungodly, so I feel for the kids today who have to hear that nonsense.
By the way, we played my grandfather's favorite Elvis gospel CD for his funeral.

It's not for me to judge. Music worship ministers to me - I like the traditional hymns, but I also like the contemporary worship music. God uses whatever means necessary to reach His people. We're not all the same, so why should we all have the same style of worship? As long as we're focusing our worship on God, it shouldn't matter.

Amazing Grace, while quite traditional, has given way to more contemporary Gospel music and it is an absolutely wonderful feeling to worship the Almighty in song. You should try it!

Hymns are just as true today as when they were first written.
T'was Grace that taught...
my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear...
the hour I first believed.
Through many dangers, toils and snares...
we have already come.
T'was Grace that brought us safe thus far...
and Grace will lead us home.
"Although my memory's fading, I remember two things very clearly. I'm a great sinner and Christ is a great Savior." - John Newton in the movie "Amazing Grace"

Singing to the Lord is just one of many ways people learn how to worship. I personally pray everynight as well as sing sometimes. I don't see anything wrong with singing as a way of worship. It is important though, that along with singing, we should read about the good Word He gave to us. That way we'll have a better understanding of what we're supposed to do in life.

Nothing.... worship is more than singing it is how you live your life. You can worship God listening to Bob Dylan or reading a book it's about a life devoted to seeking God and constantly being amazed at what he has created us to do and be.

I guess you are referring the current use of "praise music" and even "rapping for Christ" compared to standard Hymns and Gospel music.
I prefer the latter but have no problem with the former. If it glorifies God its all good.

They will probably not know the joys of following other commandments like giving to the poor, taking care of orphans and widows, worshiping through reading the Word, worshiping through spreading the Word.
