Eyes on the prize, baby, eyes on the prize. Willpower is more a matter of personality and desire for the goal to happen than religion. Besides, your body is programmed to eat, even if you are trying to lose weight--and guess who programmed it that way, according to your religion?

I don't like the whole fasting thing for any reason. We need nutrition. Denying our bodies of what it needs can not be healthy in any shape or form...that's my opinion.
Plus, it screws up your metabolism, and there is no way I could continue to work out if I didn't eat for 3 days.

i get my will power and discipline from the same place where i get my other mental attributes (from my mind). the cause of them is probably a mixture of genetics and environment. the genes got the way they are through hundreds of millions of years of evolution, and the environment i grew up in is a result of the shifting moral zeitgeist.
i am an atheist, and am no less disciplined than the average christian.

Child, haven't you been told before to not come on here until you grow up? This place is too adult for one such as you.
If you have no willpower without your imaginary friend, I suggest you seek counseling. Chances are you have some self-esteem issues.

Self Discipline is an excellent tool for atheist and believers alike. God likes those who take some personal responsibilty for their lives.

Losing weight by fasting is not healthy. You need to eat healthy foods and exercise.

as an atheist, obviously, i do not get my will power from god. And trust me, i have ALOT of will power. It's really all in your head. My will power comes from my principles. In order to build trust in myself and to maintain it, i have to complete whatever task i say i will complete. Another thing is, I think will power is easier to maintain as an adult because you have more freedom to do what YOU want to do vs what others want you to do. and when you are accomplishing what you want to do, it is easier to complete the task because you are self motivated

I have enough personal inner strength, I don't need outside strength. Still, I'm lucky to have family to help me on my life's journey. I don't need imaginary friends. I'm just more highly evolved than you. Not your fault, it's fate, right?

I use transcendental meditation myself. It achieves the same effect you describe, but has not ties to mythological characters or stories.
