Or, at least, it's not as big a priority as ending abortion.

Check out this press release from Rock for Life, affiliated with the American Life League. a Catholic pro-life group. They *demonstrated against* a moderate-to-liberal Christian conference and march against poverty!:

"It is shameful that Christians would rally around the physical needs of the poor and ignore the deaths of untold millions of babies."--Eric Whittington, youth outreach director.

Pop quiz--which issue did Jesus his very own self address more, poverty or abortion?

And which is cheaper, an abortion or raising a child?

Almost makes me embarrassed to be pro-life.

CMW, I agree. There are people in Africa and Asia who would *love* to be poor on an American city street, even though our American poverty's bad enough.

For balance, the Sojourners website. I'm glad for Christians like *these*.

Never judge a philosophy by its abuse.

I do have a problem with those of my Christian brothers and sisters who are rabidly pro life, but appear to not give a hoot once the kid is born.

Both abortion and abandoning people to starvation are murder. But you'd have to define the poor or poverty for me. Poverty in Sudan doesn't look a whole lot like poverty in Chicago.

Edit: May I recommend a look at Samaritan's Purse? I do what I can with them and a couple of others.

Yikes! Don't they realize that most aborted babies, if they had been carried to term and born - would be those very same poor people who need help? See - these are the freaky people that give Christianity (as a whole) a bad rep. It also lends evidence to my theory that many pro-lifers have the philosophy "Once you're born, you're on your own." It's too bad abused children and the poor don't have multitudes of champions out there rallying for them like embryos and fetuses do.

Greetings,
Well you didn't realize that the word Catholic is not synomonous with Christian. At least the heir-archy is not an entity that is concerned with anything resemling Christian. In fact they are one of the largest tools of our adversary Satan. So it doesn't surprise me that they would issue a statement of that kind. The only Catholics that can be considered Christian out of the laity would be those that have had their eyes and ears opened by the Holy Spirit to accept the real truth of the scriptures as written by God and not by some person that presumes to know more than God does about what He wrote for us to guide our life so that we might attain everlasting life with Him and His Son Jesus.

I agree with you. It's shocking. Both the deaths of millions of babies AND the physical needs of the poor cannot go ignored.

Christ never ignored anyone except satan (and I refuse to capitalize the S on satan's name). Heck, Jesus hung out with outcasts such as tax collectors, prostitutes, etc.

The church who is protesting....they sound like modern day Pharisees.

Sad, guess they haven't read the bible.

Ezekiel 16: 48-50 (Contemporary English Version)
As surely as I am the living LORD God, the people of Sodom and its nearby villages were never as sinful as you. They were arrogant and spoiled; they had everything they needed and still refused to help the poor and needy. They thought they were better than everyone else, and they did things I hate. And so I destroyed them.
