My dad would tell me that walking 30-60 min. a day is good for you.

Sometimes I'd walk longer; in the range of 80 to 90 min. (not every day; I'd alternate). I'm a big time walker and I walk about 4-5 times a week, leaving 2-3 days to let my body "rewind." I took up walking to lose weight, which has worked well for me.

Would a nice, long walk be okay every once in a while? Once in a long while, I'd challenge myself to walk 6 miles and it usually takes me two hours to do that.

Is it okay to "push the envelope" when exercising sometimes or should I listen to my dad and keep it at 60 min. a day? For some reason, I can't see myself walking an hour a day; I like long walks.

It is okay to push the envelope at times. After a period of walking, your body already get used to the routine. Thus it is important to bring it to the next level. Just remember to change your shoes after a certain mileage. Talk to a running shoe specialist in your area. They will be able to recommend you and tell you how much mileage before you change. A shoe that is overused can cost you to have knee problems in the future due to the lack of absorption of the impact. I would suggest you to briskwalk faster and challenge your own timing from time to time.

great question. i personally am also very fond of long walks. and i walk 2/3rds of the way home from my college 5 days a week during the school year! that's about 6 miles. i have had no adverse effects from it, except fatigue. after a 6 mile walk, I'm dead tired, and i personally ( 200 lbs 5'4),have noticed no noticeable weight loss after this daily 6 mile walk. that is to say, your body will get used to it. but if walking does it for ya, keep on at it.

With working out its all about pushing your body. But not to the point where you can feel the wear and tear. If you like long walks do it... who says you can't, it's not gonna hurt you to see the scenery while you walk for 2 hours. Do what you want the only reason to shorten your walks is if it very hot and then other health factors can come into play!

long walks are fine sometimes! just change it up. your body gets use to routine. also....i think you should try walking a little faster. try about 4 miles an hour if you can. that will really help with the weight loss as well

the traditional is 30-40 5' min in step with day. in case you haven't any longer workout for a protracted time you will possibly desire to commence from 20' min and proceed going up with the aid of the time.after 2 hours strolling you will possibly desire to commence strolling because of the fact it burns greater energy. desire you will lose the load you choose!.. ;)
