I work 3rd shift. Last night we unloaded a truck. I felt fine. I came home and went to bed. As I was getting ready for bed my chest/esophagus started feeling uncompfortable. Like I needed to burp, maybe. I went to sleep and then woke up with pain (not severe make you cry pain-though close). I drank a coke as quickly as I could and tried to burp. I only burped a little. I went back to sleep and woke up maybe 15 minutes later. I was hurting again only now (sorry if to graphic) my left breast hurt all the way to the nipple. I went to sleep and woke up like this 2 other times. I finally just got out of bed. I have to work tonight and I really need some sleep. Now my chest is still uncompfortable. If feel like there is a lump in my chest now when I swallow. And if I try to burp (or do burp) it hurts. This has been going on for almost 6 hours now so I don't figure it is anything to serious. If you have experienced this, how do I get it to stop?

Thank you everyone. I went to the emergency room. They a EKG, X-Ray, and did some blood work. Apparently it is only GERD but they said I did the right thing going in because like all of you said it could have been a lot worse. Thanks for the concern. I wish that I could give everyone best answer.

Without actually seeing you, I would guess that there are three possible issues. One, it could be muscular. This is the best option (as in good news, not most likely). Unloading a truck can cause a muscle injury in your chest which could produce the symptoms. Two, it could be Acid Reflux/Heart Burn. Drinking the coke would have made that worse. Three, it could be Cardiac related, which would not be good. You need to talk to a doctor. If the pain intensifies or spreads to your jaw, left arm, or around to your back, call 911 immediately.

If you have any doubt, talk to your Doctor.

First I want to say I am not a professional in the human medical field so I can only give you my opinion about your situation. I have had an experience where my esophagus was painful and I felt as if I needed to burp but couldn't. It also became difficult to swallow. In my case I ended up at the hospital because my body was having some strange reaction and the discomfort I was feeling was because my throat was swelling up. As far as the pain in your chest that could be serious or a just a pulled muscle. But, I would NOT play around with this. If you are having a reaction and your throat closes you won't be able to breath. If you wait till it gets to that point it will probably be too late. This strange pain in your chest could be serious problem with your heart. You SHOULDN'T wait this out and definitely DON'T go back to work where you could make it worse. I strongly suggest going to a hospital. Better safe than sorry. I know it can be expensive to see a doctor but this is your life we're talking about. PLEASE get checked out by a medical professional.

Don't be worrying about this, it's perfectly normal to have chest pains whilst having panic attacks. When you start panicking the whole of your body becomes tense and this includes your muscles. The chest pains are due to the constricting of the chest wall muscles and the muscles between your ribs and not due to any actual muscles in your heart and the best cure is to start stretching these muscles gently to relieve the pain. You could try stretching your arms above and behind your head, out to the sides and bending over gently to relieve the pain. Deep breathing relaxation techniques will also help.

Yes I had that, it was called a "heart attack" I also had my left hand tingle and then my arm got cramps, then went away. I stood up, glad my wife was there because I passed out, I woke some time later with firemen and doctors all around, you see I died.
They brought me back twice.

I didn't heed the warning because I had to work the next day too, I ignored it. I don't think you'd better and in fact, I think you'd better have someone take you to the ER and let them tell you if you have gas and need to be burped or are in fact having a heart attack.

Have you eated anything too hot as this could've caused a blister in your esophagus. This is why it hurts to swallow. Alternatively it could be a severe case of indigestion which can last for hours try to relax and i will pass.

Chest pain should be evaluated now! Don't play with it.. It could very well be your esophagus, but even then, you should rule out cardiac problems.. Go to ER at you hospital.. That's necessary!!

Problems in the chest need medical attention so they can help the pain ease away from the heart.

go to the emergency room, the heart doesn't actually have pain so the pain receptors in surrounding areas actually have the pain if it has been going on for six hours now I would recommend seeing a doctor
