Anybody else get annoyed when people on bikes get in front of you when you are DRIVING and they go about 3 miles an hour on busy streets........why don't they use the sidewalk?

***when I am trying to get to work the last thing I want to have in front of me is some tree hugger who could potentially get hit (on accident).....I don't need that on my mind. USE the BIKE LANE - don't get in the same lane as a freakin CAR! what's wrong with you? And your dumb little hand signals do nothing for me!

I do. They're usually the ones in spandex looking like they're training for the olympics or something. They should use the sidewalk but most cities allow bikers to share the road with cars. I see it as being dangerous and causing traffic issues if you can't pass them.

Here in the Netherlands many roads have bike paths, but it's illegal to ride on the sidewalk when there isn't a bike path. Cops are ticketing for that a lot too (I guess they find it easy to stop a bicycle :P) so no, unless you wanna pay my fines about once a week or more often, I'm not going to ride my bike on the sidewalk. Drivers are more used to bicycles here though, they usually pass just fine, only on very narrow streets it's a problem or when people (usually school aged kids) ride with two or three next to each other (which I think it very rude, and unfortunately also very common). But most roads in the US don't have any room for bicycles, in a small college town it was okay but when I lived in Dallas and my car was being fixed I tried biking once, never did it again. There just was no room for cars to pass me, very dangerous! I ended up walking half the way and next day I asked a friend for a ride.

Um, helloooooo. It is illegal to ride your bike on the sidewalk, and much more dangerous for the pedestrians and bike riders alike. Did you pass a driver's test? You should know that. You should also be familiar with the hand signals you're talking about. By law, the biker has every bit as much right on the road as you and your car do. If more people rode bikes instead of cars, this would be a better, cleaner world filled with thinner, more fit people. Get over yourself, road hog.

I do loathe that particular experience....however; in my city, bikes are considered 'vehicles' and sidewalks are supposed to be for pedestrians only. So the cyclists have to ride on the street or they could possibly get a ticket from the police.
(I know, it's dumb).
So, while I'm not all that enthused about such occurrences, I cannot really blame the bike rider.

bike riders need to use the sidewalk! it's annoying and I get so angry because the streets are not wide enough, and sometimes the bike riders ride too far into the lane, slowing down traffic. It's an accident waiting to happen, especially when kids ride in the street.

the sidewalk is safer, the biker riders can ride in the grass to avoid pedestrians.....when I used to ride a bike, I always used the sidewalk.

They're not supposed to use the sidewalk. Bikers have to obey the same traffic laws as cars. If your not on a highway, they YOU could probably be riding a bike too, which would help the environment and your health.

I want to say:
"Use the sidewalk or the shoulder of the road!
How hard is that?
It's actually safer than placing yourself in front of a car that could seriously hurt you if you stop suddenly."
(It's even worse when they think that they can weave through the traffic on a bicycle... and don't wear helmets.)

I can not stand it! It makes me nervous. If my car hit a bicycle the guy could really get hurt. They should not be allowed to do this, but I've heard that they have the same rights as motor vehicles on the road.

I feel envious, wish that I could ride a bike to work, store etc.
The reality is that most people are in a huge hurry to get nowhere faster. How sad

Yes, this is sooooo annoying! But, they have the right of way. I know because that was the only question I got wrong on my driver's test.
