Seriously, anyone ever incubated a bird egg with a homemade incubator?

I only ask this cause I made a homemade incubator once, using a plastic box, a heating pad and some towels. I tested it out and it works pretty well only now I want to try it out on a fertile egg , which I plan got from a friend.

And yes, I did my homework on incbating and hand raisng pigeons from day one, I did about a year and a half research, so I've gt a orugh idea of what expect.

NO ridicalous answers please!

thanks!

incredibly, one very hot summer day, my son and I found an intact egg (on the ground after a storm) which we put into a small box and onto a shelf. Believe it or not, it hatched. We raised a starling.

But yes, I've successfully hatched chicken eggs in a home-made incubator - be sure to put an X on one side of the egg so you can remember whether you've turned it or not.

Be sure to have an accurate thermometer, good heat source and put a bowl with a wet sponge (kept wet) in with the eggs to keep the humidity relatively high. i don't recommend a heating pad because it can get damaged as baby birds start to move around - you're better off with a lightbulb.

chickens hatch in something like 28 days. Be sure to keep accurate notes.

And what are you going to do with the baby chicks?

Make sure that you routinely move the egg and don't let the temperature variate. Good luck, sounds like you have done your research and should do just fine.
Too many people try things like this and don't do any preparation such as you have done. I commend you on that and wish you well.
