Then again, I never based my beliefs on what the founding fathers (or anyone else, for that matter) thought about the bible or religion, so why should it matter to me what he thought about religion?

Unfortunately religion is confused with being a child of God. I believe it disgraces him when we confuse him with religion as it is only a belief rather than a relationship.
