My husband is in Iraq. I am going to be induced in four days, and I am curious how long it takes the Red Cross to send their message to him. I want him to know that I am going to be induced, and hopefully, he will be allowed to come home.

doesn't take long at all. HOWEVER, unless he has already made arrangements to take his R&R when you deliver, chances are he will NOT be coming home.

and be advised.. even if he is allowed, it can be days, if not longer before he actually GETS home.

I takes minutes. I had a grandmother pass away when I was in Iraq and I knew about it in just 30 minutes. So they are pretty quick. As far as him coming home, he might not be there for the delivery, but he might be there afterward, about a 75% chance. I had a couple of friends go on leave for about 2 weeks while we were in Iraq because of their babies being born. I was in the Marine Corps, though, and it all depends on the branch, and the MOS your husband has. My detachment didn't see combat, so the baby leave was allowed.

Not long at all. As for coming home, doubt it hun. Only if there are major complications involved. Rarely, depending on how long they have left in country, MOS, their true need at the moment. The Red Cross contacts his command, command contacts the troop, troop contacts hospital and gets wife. Have had a few guys I know be contacted over the radio by their command telling them.

Congrads !! Make sure you get your red cross id number , it shouldnt take but a few hrs then it all depends on how fast they get the message to him . you can call him (if he has a cell) and give him the red cross id number .. Good luck and God bless!
They may not send him home it is up to his chain of command , though there were guys in my husband's unit who had their 2nd and 3rd child who were allowed to go home, but one of hi Soldiers had his 1st and wasnt allowed to go home..

I got a message in one day (about 6-8 hours) from my parent in L.A. CA when I was in Desert Storm. So, not long, depends.

I don't know if they will let him come home for the birth of your/his child.

It will only take a couple of days for the messege to get to him.

But they aren't gonna send him home, just because your having a baby.

They only send people home, if there is a life threatening condition.
