It's the "Animal Farm" mentality.
All religions are equal, but some are more equal than others.
Considering that it took nearly 10 years and the filing of a pair of lawsuits to get the Wiccan pentacle approved for inscription on a VA headstone, you'll pardon me for not having a lot of sympathy for the "Oh, Christians are so persecuted in this country" claptrap.

I don't think Christians are trying to keep people from allowing all religions an equal voice. Are you talking about the loud mouth Christians on TV? if so, that does not speak for most mainstream Christians in USA.
This country is based on freedom of religion. That is why the pilgrims came here in the first place. This country was made and based on faith in God. It is our history. If you get rid of God, you get rid of our history.
I believe it is the MINORITY that wants God out. I think we, as Americans, should take a vote and see exactly where this issue stands.
Also, I want to say that Christianity, in my point of view, is not a religion. It is based on the teachings of Christ and does not hold religious man made beliefs, rules, and regulations. Just an FYI.

I think that there are SOME Christians who truly believe that they deserve that place in society they used to have, where they were considered the norm and everyone else was an "other." If you are being treated as special for a really long time, and all of a sudden you're being treated more like everyone else is...I can see how it might *feel* like persecution. It isn't, of course, but I can understand that feeling a little bit. I think that U.S. Christians who say these things about being persecuted or silenced or whatever need to step back and try to get a little bit of perspective.

I think this is a can of worms. Your question isn't specific enough as to in what capacity this "silencing" is taking place. And I don't think the government as a unified body endorses any religion. There may be certain individuals in government who visibly bring their religion to bear on their decisions, but I don't see the promotion of Christianity by the government occurring in any capacity.

This is exactly it. Allowing other religions to have a voice is seen as "persecution" by many. Or inclusion of all religions by the use of "Happy Holidays" is considered an "attack" on Christmas. What it really comes down to some people refuse to share.

Excellent point.
A few months ago I asked something, vaguely similar about Christmas and other holidays being celebrated at school. The horrible thing was...quite a few Christians admitted that the reason they lobbied to get Halloween out of public schools was "revenge" (one of em used the word "revenge") on "us" for taking Christmas "away from them."
Oi! You're really getting down to the short strokes if you have to use THIS as an example of "persecutuion"

All faiths are supposed to be protected in this country. What a of Christians are referring to is like this example in my area. In December, a giant menorah is placed in the grassy entrance to a shopping mall. Everybody is fine with this and I applaud it. But if a Christian puts up a manger, somebody goes to court and gets a restraining order.
That sort of thing is, I think, what they're referring to and it's irrefutable. Too many of us have personal experience with it. Government must be neutral on the issue of religion.

While it seems we hear more Christians complaining about this kind if thing, I'm sure those minority religions feel the same way. Unfortunately one of the main problems that I see with religion is that in order to be a true believer you must believe that your religion is right and every other religion is wrong. Because of this, nobody wants to share the spotlight.

Great question.
I honestly think they do. They want all other religions silenced at any expense. They don't want a free society. They want a Christian society.
