Today driving home from work I was pulled over and received only a citation for driving 8mph over the limit. I didn't get any points on my license or anything, just have to pay the $100 fine. My question is, do I have to tell my insurance company, and will my rate go up after this citation?

The police man told me that I would not receive any points.

You didn't get any points yet because it hasn't been processed yet. After you go to court or pay the fine, then you will probably get points. Your insurance rate will most likely go up too.

Oh yea, it's definitely going to show up on your policy, it's just a matter of time before your insurance company finds out.

Your ins co checks for points annually, at renewal time. Here's how it works, you tell them, or they tell you.
