Wherever I go I see that fish. Just about every car here had one and now I see it on signs advertising businesses. What do they think I am going to use them because they say they are Christian? If you have to tell people your Christian how Christian are you?

Scuba Dude - I don't want to 'fight back' but thank for the thought. Maybe I could put the sign of the Goddess on my car.

exactly....i'm reading a great book about mister rogers and about how he was a presbyterian minister, but that he NEVER mentioned god or christianity in his show, he led by example, not wearing his religion on his sleeve. that to me is how it should be.

Why is it bigotted or discriminating for somebody to place an iconic image on one's own own vehicle, abode or corporation? i assume you have under no circumstances heard of freedom of speech. The fish is a logo of Christianity for 2 motives: whilst it replaced into no longer risk-free to publicly admit you have been a Christian, and in case you had to comprehend if somebody else replaced right into a Christian, you are able to desire to no longer purely ask, or you are able to finally end up being lion foodstuff. So, what they did is this: you are able to casually draw the right a million/2 of the fish in the floor with your toe. If the different individual replaced right into a Christian, they could end the photograph then rub it out. The be conscious "Fish" in Greek includes the letters that make an anagram that spelled out says "Jesus Christ, God's Son, Savior" YiChThus or some thing like that. further remark to Katie: i'm sorry to take heed to that somebody could do some thing as spiteful as throwing a brick with the aid of your dad's vehicle. As a Christian, myself, i could under no circumstances do something like that.

I think because the symbol of the fish came from the term "Fishers of men". Why not put something on the back of the car or whatever to tell people that you are a Christian. It's the same thing as putting a soccer ball or a radio station sticker on the back of your car. It's just like telling people who you are or what you like, while you're driving.

I'd like to preface this by saying that often the fish symbol turns me off too, but I can share my opinion on why it is in so many places.
Sharing your belief in a public way attracts like minded people to your establishment. Just like the gay and lesbian community puts the rainbow flag up, or people who are part of the Chamber of Commerce put the seal in their window. Some of the symbols can alienate a few, but often they create a sense of shared values and rapport even before they step through the door. If you can afford to alienate a few to have enough easy business brought to your door just by stating a personal affiliation, why wouldn't you?

My personal favorite is the 'Truth' fish eating the 'Darwin' critter. If you think about it there's NOTHING more Darwinian that the big fish eating the little fish!
Though to answer your question as a Christian I DON'T frequent businesses who use such symbols as they are taking the meaning of Christ's teachings and going against what he taught. Read Matthew 6:5-6 if you're in doubt

Maybe they like to fish :)
Maybe it is a free country and you can advertise any way you like. It's no skin off your back. Don't use the fish if you don't want to. live and let live.
Lots of people trust Christians and want to do work with them. If I saw a fish on a business I would definately work with them.
Why do people have to put that damn fish with feet on their car. Don't they know that fish don't have feet. Silly people. I wouldn't do business with someone who doesn't know that fish swim. I would be concerned with their "mindset"

To get more money, plain and simple.
They believe that other christians will shop there or spend their money there more often if they display the symbol--and the fact is that they actually do.
So they are laughing all the way to the bank with that money.
And I agree with your line of thinking : if you have to tell people how christian you are, then maybe you aren't actually living a very christ-like life. Get rid of the fish, which is a very poor substitute for performing good acts, and start living your faith.

The 'Jesus Fish' of which you speak is a hallmark of the 'Christian business person' ... whom all to often will take you for everything you've got. I have encountered entirely too many people claiming to be 'Christian business people' who are simply trading on a symbol of a faith they don't practice.

Why does it matter to you? Are they hurting you? Does that little fishy make their business any less? No. All they want to do is to display their faith to their god. What is wrong with that? The reason that you see it everywhere is that A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE CHRISTIAN. Whether you choose to deny their services because of their beliefs is your decision, but is it really that big of deal? I say there are bigger things to worry about, and a little plastic fishy isn't one of them. They're proud of their beliefs. Shouldn't everyone be?

LOL!!! I have no answers but it reminds me of a part in the movie, "Saved" (great, funny film, by the way!) where a woman wins an award for Best Christian Interior Decorator. WTF? What's the difference?! We also have Christian dry cleaners here. What, do they pray the stains and wrinkles out? It doesn't make sense to me either.

Maybe they're not advertising their faith to attract you. As a Christian I can say I would be more likely to use a business that was Christian because I would know their business ethics would be Bible based and I would be less likely to get screwed over.
