I'm looking to replace my 95 Civic. I am considering a 2004 Chevy Cavelier or a 2002 Saturn SL2. Both have about the same amount of miles(in the 40s). They are both in the 8,000 range. I leaning toward the Saturn because I've heard good things.

The Chevy. When all else is equal consider safety. If you were to get hit broadside would you rather be surrounded with steel or recycled plastic cola bottles?

Go w/ the Saturn!

I traded my '03 w/ 180k miles on it, and the ONLY problem it had was the the seal around the moon-roof leaked when it rained really really hard!

Those are the most impressive of the USA built cars on the road!

(I now drive a Lexus SC, but if they ever decide to build a luxury high/performance convertable, I'd so buy one. In fact, I'm thinking about buying a used SKY maybe next year, just to keep the miles off my SC). I love Saturns!

While I am a die hard Chevy owner, in this case, I'd go with the Saturn as long as the warranty is the same. I found that the cavalier had several problems not common to chevys in general. Everything from excessive road noise and vibrations to constant problems with the brakes and tranny.

I'd go with the Saturn. GM makes both of them but the Saturn basically has a Toyota engine. From what I understand they are also much more reliable.

Well, the problem is that you heard good things about older Saturns. They had a real downturn in quality, althought they are starting to turn it around again. With the years you are talking about, its probably 6 on one hand, a half dozen on the other.

Neither. I would get another Civic. Chevy and Saturn are both GM :{(

Definitely go with the Saturn. Saturn's are well made cars. Cavaliers aren't bad, but they're kind of cheaply made.
