Go to the craft store and get something wooden and unpainted that he can use. Then by the paints (.50 a piece) and paint it with the kids. You can even buy cool things to glue onto it. Last year my son and I made a remote holder that has painted letters that say "daddy's remotes" we also made him a key rack. It's a lot of fun and very inexpensive!

Get lots of supplies, such as:
colored construction paper, glue, crayons, markers, glitter, stickers, anything that looks fun and easy. Even pipe cleaners would work.

Make a tie card! Here's how you do it:

1. Take any size you want piece of construction paper
1a. Hold it in front of you long ways
2. Take the top 2 corners and fold them inwards, as if you were making a paper air plane.
3. In the same spot, take the sides of the triangle at the top from the fold before, and fold it again, so it makes a slim, tie like figure. (It should meet in the middle, but it can be slimmer if you want.)
4. Take the bottom corners and fold them in, so that they meet making a straight line in the middle. You should have a diamond shape.
5. Take strip of (any color, preferably a different one than used before) paper (about 2 inches long for a 12x18 peice of paper), then fold it in thirds so the outside is folding in. (the middle part should be on the bottom, then the sides should fold on top of each other)
6. Fold the middle section in thirds making the middle part of the thirds a square. Fold behind the square, making a strip with a little square.
7. Glue strip on to the top of the tie.
8. DECORATE IT!!!!
BONUS: the inside can be used as a card if decorations aren't too severe.

My husband likes to grill mostly on the weekends. Last year I bought a grill set and a plain white apron. We got some paint and with a paint brush paint on hands and place all over the apron and then with a fabric marker wrote their names below their hands. Then wrote Happy Father's Day on the apron. He really appreciated the thought behind it. You could also get some construction paper and stickers, glue, glitter glue, beads and have them make a card. I also wrote him a letter telling him how much we appreciate him and when the kids grow up how proud they will be to say "That's my Dad" and when their hands are as big as his they will be able to share the wonderful memories that they spent together. You could also get a good cookie recipe and make him some cookies or whatever his favorite dessert is.

PS write happy fathers day on the apron before you do the painted hands

My all time favorite fathers day gifts from my kids have always been simple crafts. Pictures they drew, photographs of them , stories etc. My wife has them do these on regular unlined paper. Then, they would put them together with ribbon like a book. When they got more adventurous, they would make a cover of cardboard covered in material.Although my kids are all grown now, I still have these and proudly display them along with the other books in my personal library behind my desk.

I don't know if you have any paint it yourself pottery places in your area but... if you do, you can get a large bisque plate and write "Daddy's Little Helpers" or something like that and have them put their hand prints on the plate. You can put designs around it, leave it with just the hand prints and it will be fired and will last a long time. It's very inexpensive and comes from the heart.

kids at that age love to experiment with stuff. but they also need to learn responsiblity so try making cookies from scratch. it might get messy but kids have fun doing it. then afterwards they can decorate them will sprinkles, frosting, letters, candy...anything. plus if they want there(for instance) sugar cookies to be their dad's favorite color...just add food coloring to the batter. you can also make cupcakes and do the same. then on father's day he will be able see how responsible and talented his kids are.
