Sweetie pie save your money. I have been a bartender for almost 20 years. I never went to bartending school. I got a job as a cocktail waitress and watched everything the bartenders did. I asked lots of questions and helped them out as much as I could(that way they don't get pissed at you for asking so many questions). I have trained many people how to bartend. Get a bartending book, I suggest the bartenders black book, and study the drinks. The best way to learn is to just do it. It is a lot of fun and is very lucrative if you become good at it. Start off at a slower bar until you are comfortable then move up. There are many websites you can find that can give you links to some really informative videos and answer more of your questions. Good Luck!

Uh, not that school. $475 sounds about right, but not that intensive. My friend went through bartending school by doing 2 weekends! It's a fun job if you don't care about nights and weekends, which I didn't. But she got jobs at high end clubs with that certificate. If you really want to bartend, see if there's another school that doesn't ask for so much time, that's outrageous for the price.

Unless you live in Vegas, no. If you start out in a restaurant, bartenders almost always get promoted--seniority is a serious issue in the service industry =0) other than that, most places like to hire experienced bartenders, people who know a lot of recipes and can count their pours.... some schools will help with placement, but you should only spend that much money on classes if you are trying to learn some cool tricks.

Sounds kind of expensive but you can make good money bartending. Can't say is you should or shoudn't go.
If you have any interest in it then maybe.
Your decision but be prepared to work weekends and very late nights. Oh, and putting up w/ a bunch of crap from people.
Don't mean for it to sound all bad, it is fun, especially when you are that young.

No. Bartending is a "gotta know someone" type business. A certification from a bartending school is worth about as much as the paper it's printed on.

Good choice. Its worth it. Alot of bartending jobs available but they want only experienced ones for part timers. Because its not worth wasting alot of time training them then they go away when school starts. Besides that, they pay good money. I regret not doing it. 18 is a good age to pick up the art. Go for it !!!!!!

that's a lot of money for something for information you can learn on your own, i say find a bar that is willing to train you. you might have to start out as a bar back, but just get a few books and read them, it also helps to be able to drink at bars though.
oh, and look up the local liquor laws for your state, you can try websites like bartender.com, but i think they have an age restriction.
