I guess if you are referring to why archery is less practiced for hunting is because of the limited range of the weapon. Generally speaking, it takes much more practice than a rifle or shotgun to achieve good shot placement. The increased practice time is what I imagine makes it less popular than rifle shooting.

Well I am not sure where your *Here* is? and I certainly can't speak for all other places, but my here, in Washington state it is a popular recreational sport... We have many archery ranges and clubs... It is quite hard to get in during the good weather.. You have to call ahead about two weeks to reserve a single range.. Those are the outdoor ones.. The indoor ones are impossible at times to reserve. There are many organizations and clubs here as well that teach youth about archery and safety. For hunting though, that is not my thing.. My family sticks with the archery ranges, and safe, set targets out in the bush. I can only assume larger cities and their neighboring towns are less likely into any sort of outdoor sports or recreation because they have a whole city of (modern entertainment available) I don't think as many parents of younger children now days were involved in outdoor recreation as much as they were involved in home and city entertainment... so they likely pass the modern on to their children.. Outdoor recreation is a heritage if you ask me..
